Chapter 9 The vicious Sebastian

971 Words
"Shi Botao was the patient I operated on this morning!" Lila suddenly realized. He was suffering from severe myocardial infarction. She recalled Sebastian's words: "Get rid of him and make it look like a medical accident." Shi Botao was her patient, and if anything happened to him, as his attending physician, she would be held responsible. As Lila was feeling conflicted, Nurse Jiang Jingqi entered. Jiang, the same age as Lila at 22, had just graduated from nursing school and was an intern nurse at Jiayu Hospital. Lila got along well with her, likely due to their similar age, which made communication easier. "Hey, Lila, you're working so hard! Haven't had lunch yet?" Jiang Jingqi asked as she walked into the office with a packed meal. Lila looked at her gratefully. She was starving after the surgery, but her encounter with Sebastian had killed her appetite. "Jiang Jingqi, thank you. How did you know I hadn't eaten lunch yet?" Lila asked, standing up and pulling out a chair for Jiang to sit down. "Of course! We eat lunch together every day. I asked Dr. Yang, who said you had surgery this morning, so I guessed you probably hadn’t had lunch yet," Jiang Jingqi replied with a bright smile, her pretty eyes sparkling. As Lila opened the meal, she asked, "Jingqi, do you know anything about this Shi Botao guy?" Jiang Jingqi’s eyes rolled as she looked at Lila in surprise. "Seriously? You don't know Shi Botao? He's the general manager of JS International." But Lila had just returned to the country and wasn't interested in gossip, so she naturally didn’t know who Shi Botao was. "If I’m not mistaken, he’s the patient I operated on this morning," Lila said, nodding with a thoughtful expression. "Yeah, that’s him," Jiang Jingqi confirmed with a sweet smile, revealing two adorable little tiger teeth. "So, what’s the background of this JS International general manager?" Lila asked, curious. Since Jiang Jingqi was a native of A City and loved gossip, she naturally knew all about the city’s celebrities. "The president of JS International is his nephew, Sebastian. Isn’t that some serious background?" Jiang Jingqi said dramatically, as if she could talk about Sebastian for days. Lila felt confused. If Shi Botao was Sebastian's uncle, that meant Sebastian wanted to kill his own uncle. How could someone be so ruthless? "Lila, what's wrong?" Jiang Jingqi asked, noticing Lila was lost in thought and nudging her arm. "Nothing. Jingqi, please transfer Shi Botao to the ICU," Lila decided. She needed to protect Shi Botao and prevent anyone from getting close to him. That way, Sebastian wouldn’t have a chance to make a move. "Why? Is his condition very serious?" Jiang Jingqi asked. "Yes, it is. Besides, you said he’s the uncle of JS International’s president, so we need to take extra care of him. Don’t you agree?" Lila said with a pleasant smile. Only a pure-hearted girl like Jiang Jingqi would believe her well-intentioned lie. **JS International.** **President's Office.** On an expensive leather sofa sat a tall, expressionless man, his hands casually flipping through some documents. "Boss, the hospital just called. Shi Botao has been transferred to the ICU, and family members aren’t allowed to visit," Zou Yingjie suddenly remembered and reminded Sebastian, though he knew Sebastian didn’t care about Shi Botao’s fate. In fact, it would be better if Shi Botao died. "Really? How interesting," Sebastian said with a slight smile, his obsidian eyes gleaming with a hint of unfathomable light. "Boss, there’s a meeting this afternoon," Zou Yingjie informed him, sensing Sebastian's mind was no longer on the company. "Cancel it. I’m going to the hospital now," Sebastian said, grabbing his custom-made Italian suit from the sofa and striding out. Zou Yingjie followed him out. Wherever Sebastian went, he followed—that was his mission. Zou Yingjie wasn’t just Sebastian's assistant; he was the Knight family’s butler and a former special forces soldier. **Jiayu Hospital.** Lila, worried about Shi Botao’s condition, had just checked on his room. As she was about to leave, Sebastian arrived. Jiang Jingqi was running after Sebastian, clearly unable to stop him. "S…Sebastian, I’m sorry, but you can't go in," Jiang Jingqi stammered, clearly flustered at seeing her idol so close and forgetting to stop him in her excitement. When Lila and Sebastian's eyes met, there was a moment of awkwardness. She thought to herself, "Oh no, why is he here now? Does this mean my lie will be exposed?" Sebastian intentionally ignored Lila and walked around her, attempting to open the door to the patient’s room. What a ruthless move, Lila thought. She was in a dilemma about whether or not to speak up, but in the end, she decided to confront him. "I’m sorry, but you can’t go in," Lila said, blocking Sebastian. "I want to see my uncle. Is there a problem with that?" Sebastian asked, pretending not to recognize Lila. Lila was puzzled but didn’t have time to think about why Sebastian was pretending not to know her. Maybe he had forgotten, which would be great. Still, he was like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. "The patient is still in critical condition, and according to hospital rules, family members are not allowed to visit," Lila said, standing firmly in front of Sebastian. Her petite body trembled slightly as she silently prayed for help. "Rules are made by people and can be changed. You can go in, so why can’t I? If I need to sanitize first, I’m willing to cooperate," Sebastian replied politely, in stark contrast to the threatening tone he had used in the stairwell. "Rules are rules. If they’re broken so easily, they aren’t rules. If you insist on staying, I’ll call security," Lila said firmly, determined not to let Sebastian in, knowing he was dangerous.
