“Oh? Is that so? Then try it. Or better yet, call your hospital director,”Sebastian said wickedly, noticing the uncertainty in Lila's clear eyes.
“Sebastian, please comply with the hospital regulations. Once the patient is out of immediate danger in a few days, you’ll certainly be allowed to visit,”Lila pleaded, realizing Sebastian wouldn’t respond to force, so she tried a softer approach.
But she absolutely couldn’t let Sebastian in. Whether he saw Shi Botao or not made no difference; besides, Lila was sure Sebastian didn’t have good intentions.
However, Sebastian didn't listen to Lila's words at all. Instead, he acted like a rogue. He bent down, stretched his long legs, and sat in a chair.“Then I'll wait here.”
Lila rolled her eyes helplessly. It was really something to see the president of JS International with so much free time. It seemed he was determined to challenge her.
“Jiang Jingqi, you go ahead and get back to work. I’ll handle this,”Lila said, knowing Sebastian would probably waste some time with her. If he wanted to go in, she would accompany him.
Jiang Jingqi's eyes rolled around, wondering if Lila might be in danger. Sebastian didn’t look like someone easy to deal with.
“Lila, I’m leaving then,”Jiang Jingqi said, but before she left, she gave Sebastian several reluctant glances. After all, it would be a waste not to look at her idol right in front of her.
“Aren’t you the one who said you’re not a doctor at this hospital?”After Jiang Jingqi left, Sebastian asked dangerously.
Lila’s heart pounded like a startled deer. She forced a smile but didn’t directly answer Sebastian’s question.
“If you insist on going in, I’ll go with you, but you’ll have to bear the consequences. If the patient accidentally gets infected, it’ll all be your responsibility,”Lila said righteously.
“Ridiculous! How is it my responsibility? Isn’t it the hospital’s responsibility if a patient gets infected?”Sebastian retorted, noticing Lila didn’t want to answer his question, but he didn’t press further. He already knew Lila was a doctor at Jiayu Hospital.
Trying to scare Sebastian? Lila really had some guts.
“How would it be the hospital’s responsibility? I warned you,”Lila replied, raising her eyes to look at Sebastian. With his sharp brows and big eyes, he did look quite handsome.
“If I disinfect myself before going in, and he still gets infected, then it’s because your hospital’s disinfection wasn’t thorough,”Sebastian countered smoothly, clearly outmatching Lila in their exchange.
Lila didn’t know where her anger came from. Her time working at Jiayu Hospital had gone smoothly, even though Director Li had been quietly trying to push her out. However, Lila had real skills and hadn’t done anything wrong, so she wasn’t afraid of Li’s petty moves. But Sebastian gave her a strong sense of danger.
Disinfecting and changing clothes, Sebastian performed every action with grace.
“Lila, you seem to be sweating,”Sebastian noted after they entered the room, glancing coldly at Shi Botao, then never looking at him again.
Lila touched her forehead awkwardly, feeling nervous. She had indeed broken out in a slight sweat.“The air conditioning is on in here. Is it strange to sweat?”
Sebastian didn’t respond, merely finding it amusing. Lila’s behavior reminded him of a saying: a stubborn person never admits defeat.
The room suddenly became very quiet. Lila wasn’t much of a talker, and the silence was so profound that the ticking of the clock could be heard.
Lila silently counted in her mind. Thirty seconds. These thirty seconds felt like half a century, an unbearable wait!
“Looking at him now, doesn’t he seem like he’s about to die?”Sebastian asked coldly, staring at Shi Botao. At this moment, he wished Shi Botao would die right before his eyes.
The alarm immediately went off. Lila watched Sebastian warily and said,“What are you planning? Don’t you dare do anything reckless.”
“Oh? Are you afraid I might kill him?”Sebastian’s lips curled into a mocking smile.
Lila’s spine stiffened. She didn’t know why, but she found herself fearing this man. Within a single day, she had encountered him twice. Lila would rather believe that God had sent this fool to test her.
“Sebastian, don’t joke around. He is your uncle,”Lila replied calmly after taking several deep breaths.
“Uncle?”Sebastian’s voice, though brief, was colder than the chill in the air, making Lila instinctively clench the edge of her coat. Whenever she was nervous, she would hold onto her clothes tightly for a sense of security.
What kind of grudge is this? What kind of nephew treats his uncle like this? Lila felt extremely frustrated.
“That’s not what I said. You just said it yourself,”Lila explained, not even knowing why she was explaining. Sebastian always had an aura that made her fearful.
“When will he wake up?”Sebastian asked, shifting the topic since Shi Botao’s eyes remained closed.
“Tomorrow or the day after,”Lila replied. She couldn’t be certain when Shi Botao would wake up. During the surgery, Lila had realized that Shi Botao’s heart condition was quite severe and had been ongoing for years.
“Then I’ll trouble Dr. Zhou to take care of my dear uncle,”Sebastian said lightly. There seemed to be another meaning hidden in his words, but Lila couldn’t figure it out.
“It’s my duty. No need to thank me,”Lila replied politely. Although she could never be friends with someone as powerful as Sebastian, at least she shouldn’t make an enemy of him!
With that, Sebastian walked out of the ICU without saying another word. Lila, however, breathed a sigh of relief.
Before leaving work, Lila instructed the two nurses assigned to Shi Botao to keep a close watch on him and call her immediately if anything happened. Though she had successfully completed the surgery that morning, she couldn’t predict what might happen next.
After work, Lila went to the detention center to see her father. Before entering, she was trembling all over.
At the same time, a black Lamborghini with the license plate A8888 was parked not far from the detention center. Inside the car, the person wore an indifferent expression, as if watching a tragic play.
Sebastian happened to have business at the detention center after work. As he gazed at Lila’s frail figure, his eyes gradually grew darker...
Through a large transparent glass pane, Lila saw Damien's face for the first time in a long while. Up close, she noticed that Damien’s face was covered in bruises, some dark, some light.
Lila’s eyes began to well up. She hesitated for a moment, then saw Damien smile at her and picked up the phone.
She didn’t dare to look; Damien’s smile held too much bitterness.
“Dad,”Lila said, looking at Damien through the glass. She had never imagined she would one day see her father here.
