Chapter 5 Being humiliated

1224 Words
Lila found herself unable to articulate her pain. What could be more heartbreaking than an unexpected betrayal? She felt like a fool. Before this happened, she hadn't harbored even the slightest suspicion. Serena was shocked. Her eyes were filled with complex emotions. Absolutely not—she could not let her precious daughter suffer this way. "Those two are truly despicable, such shameless scoundrels!" Serena was also furious, her breath coming in huffs as she struggled to contain her anger. But right now, what mattered most was to bring those two scoundrels to justice. Lila remained rational. She didn't dwell on Adrian's betrayal. What was done was done, and it was evident that it had all been premeditated. The real challenge now was how to cover the six-million-yuan financial hole. "How much liquid capital do we have right now?" Lila suddenly asked, her voice calm and steady. "Just over a million," Serena replied, looking up. She hadn't expected her daughter to be so composed at such a critical moment. A deep sense of pride welled up in her eyes. "Have you reported this to the police?" Lila asked, her brow furrowed with concern. "Yes, I have. The police are investigating," Serena replied anxiously. She hoped they could uncover the truth. Otherwise, Damien was sure to take the fall for this. The company had lost so much money for no apparent reason. Given that the company's operations hadn't been going well in recent years, this was nothing short of a disaster for the Montrose family—a severe blow when they were already down. Lila suddenly felt a wave of helplessness. Biting her lip, she spoke in a trembling voice, her eyes moist with unshed tears. "If worse comes to worst, we could sell the house. We can sell my apartment too. Together, that should be enough to cover the six million." Serena's eyes showed a hint of hesitation. Selling the house meant they would lose everything. They had lived there for over ten years and had grown deeply attached to it. In this world, making money was already difficult. Perhaps this was their only option. "Clap, clap, clap." Suddenly, a sound of applause came from the doorway. Adrian appeared, dressed in a sleek suit, looking bright and refreshed as he strode into the house. "What a touching display of mother-daughter affection!" Adrian said with a mocking grin, his vibrant appearance giving him the air of a nobleman. Lila was stunned, her eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions. How could this scumbag dare to come here? "Adrian, you beast! How dare you come here? This is our home! Get out right now, or I'll call the police!" Serena shouted, trembling with rage at the sight of Adrian. Her face had turned pale. "Oh, Aunt Serena, please don't get upset. I'm just here to reclaim what rightfully belongs to me," Adrian said, his lips curling into a roguish smirk. As he spoke, he casually tossed his suit jacket aside and sat down on the sofa, crossing his legs nonchalantly. Lila gently pulled Serena, who was shaking with anger, away. Her eyes were filled with fury as she stared at Adrian. "What are you here to take from our home?" "What do you think?" Adrian shrugged nonchalantly, exuding an air of arrogance and fearlessness. "I don't know, but I suggest you leave immediately," Lila said, pointing firmly toward the door. Seeing this scumbag disgusted her. How could there be such shameless trash in the world? "Lila, you're so naive. I'm here in my home, of course, to kick out you two strangers," Adrian said, his face expressionless as he lounged on the sofa, laughing arrogantly. His sinister laughter echoed through the living room. Lila was stunned, exchanging bewildered glances with Serena. His home? Since when had our home become Adrian's? Lila felt like Adrian was talking nonsense! "Adrian, stop dreaming. If you have any brains, I suggest you run away now. You framed my father, and the police will surely find out the truth!" Lila's brows furrowed tightly as her mind swirled in confusion. She put on a fierce expression, never imagining that the person she once loved the most would now be the one she hated the most. "Oh?" Adrian's tone was mocking, and in the next second, his eyes gleamed with greed. "That old man hasn't told you yet, has he? Last month, the company took on a big order. Because there was no cash flow, this house was used as collateral. Now that the company is in trouble, I bought this house from the bank fair and square." "Don't you dare insult my father like that!" Lila furiously grabbed Adrian's shirt, trying to push him out of the house. "Attorney Chen, please come in." Adrian's cold smile remained as he suddenly flung Lila aside, sending her sprawling to the floor. Seeing her daughter hurt, Serena hurried over and anxiously asked, "Lila, are you hurt?" Lila pressed her lips together, holding back the urge to cry. She slowly stood up from the floor, brushed off her clothes, and said, "Mom, I'm fine." "Madam, Miss, I am Adrian's attorney. Here is the contract for the house. Please vacate the premises immediately." Attorney Chen spoke in a detached, formal manner, his face expressionless. His brief words were like a cold decree. Serena's hands trembled as she took the contract, and indeed, Damien's signature was there. Tears welled up in Serena's eyes, and she bowed her head in silence. "Mom, it's okay. We'll be back soon. This scoundrel won't have a good ending." Lila turned her head, shooting Adrian a glare, then grabbed Serena and started to leave. "Stop, Lila. I didn't like the look you just gave me," Adrian's magnetic voice carried a chilling charm. Lila continued walking without looking back, heading to her room to pack their belongings. Seeing that Lila was ignoring him, Adrian became anxious. He quickly stepped forward and grabbed Lila. "Let go of me, you scumbag." Lila pushed Adrian away with all her strength, her face filled with disdain and her eyes wary. After a moment of hesitation, Adrian spoke with a calculating tone, "Lila, I actually like you a lot. If you want to stay here, you can. Just quit your job at the hospital and focus on serving me at home. Be my woman, and I guarantee you won't have to worry about food or drink for the rest of your life." "Ugh, disgusting. Adrian, let me tell you something. Even if I have to sweep the streets, I will never be your woman. You can forget about it." Yesterday, he was rolling in bed with Elias, and now he's saying he likes her? Does he think she's an i***t? "I'm serious, Lila. Compared to Elias, I like you more because I've realized…you have a certain unyielding spirit." Adrian wore a lecherous smile, but there was some truth in his words. Elias was just a pawn for him to get the Zhou family's assets. Over the years, the only person he truly loved was Lila. But fate had other plans. Adrian couldn't love Lila. Fifteen years ago, the Montrose family acquired his family's company, and Adrian's parents jumped to their deaths overnight. Adrian had been soaked in hatred since childhood, so his approach to Lila was always about revenge.
