Whispers of the Monsoon – Part 6

653 Words
The days that followed Aarav’s return felt like a dream Piya never wanted to wake from. It was as if the universe had gifted them a second chance—a chance to create a world where love would always win. Aarav had kept his promise. He didn’t leave, not even for a moment. He would pick Piya up after her classes, and they’d roam the quiet streets of their town, discovering hidden cafés and laughing like they’d never been apart. One evening, as the monsoon began to settle, Aarav took her hand while they sat on a park bench overlooking the lake. The sky blushed with soft orange hues, and the wind carried the scent of wet earth. “Piya,” Aarav murmured, his thumb brushing against her knuckles. She turned to him, her eyes glowing in the soft light. “Hmm?” “I’ve been thinking about us.” His voice was gentle but steady, as if every word he was about to say had been carefully weighed. Piya smiled, tilting her head. “What about us?” Aarav turned to face her fully, his gaze intense yet full of warmth. “I want to build a life with you, Piya. I want to be the man who wakes up next to you every morning, who dreams with you, who supports you no matter what.” Her breath hitched as she looked at him, her heart pounding. “Aarav…” He reached into his pocket, pulling out something small and delicate—a silver ring with a tiny blue stone that shimmered in the fading light. “It’s not much,” he said softly, “but it’s a start. This isn’t a grand proposal, Piya—just a promise. A promise that no matter what life throws at us, I’ll always choose you.” Tears welled in Piya’s eyes as she stared at the ring. It wasn’t just a piece of jewelry—it was the love they’d shared, the letters they’d written, and the moments they’d fought to hold onto. “Aarav…” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Will you wear this and promise me something?” he asked, holding the ring out to her. “What?” she breathed. “Promise me that you’ll keep dreaming, that you’ll never stop being the beautiful, strong girl I fell in love with. And promise me that, someday, when the time is right, we’ll make this forever.” Piya’s tears slipped down her cheeks as she nodded, her smile bright even through her sobs. “I promise, Aarav. I promise you everything.” He slipped the ring onto her finger, his hands shaking slightly, and then he pulled her into his arms, holding her as if he’d never let go. The world seemed to disappear around them—the people, the sounds, the passing time. It was just the two of them, wrapped in love and promises, as the sky turned to twilight. “I love you, Piya,” Aarav whispered against her hair. “I love you more,” she replied, her voice soft and sure. --- In the months that followed, their love became stronger with every passing day. They studied together, laughed together, and dreamed together. Aarav worked hard, taking small jobs to save for their future, while Piya focused on her studies, determined to make him proud. On quiet evenings, they would sit under the stars, their hands intertwined, and talk about the life they’d build—about a little home with white curtains and a balcony where they’d drink tea together every morning. “Aarav,” Piya would whisper, “do you think love like this lasts forever?” He would kiss her forehead and reply, “With you, Piya, forever doesn’t seem long enough.” And in their hearts, they knew—no matter what life brought them, their love would always find a way. ---
