Jay grunted and shook his head, giving Ansel a nasty look. Ansel didn’t seem to notice. “I’m taking Genevieve home. You’re fine handling this?” Ansel asked. “Go.” Jay nodded, still eyeing the body. I would’ve offered to take her, but the state of both of them stopped me. Genevieve looked like a ghost of herself, her eyes glazed over, staring into the distance, way from the body. Ansel looked on edge, like something was about to pop out of the dumpster and grab his mate. They need to be together, reassure each other. Which meant I was staying here, with Jay. I wasn’t about to leave him alone with Herald, dead Herald, and some random witch. I wiped my hands on the hips of my jeans.
