Chapter 34

Gwen My skin tingled and warmth radiated through me, like I was pressed up against the sun. The scent of rich earth after summer rain surrounded me and I sucked in a deep breath. I pulled my hand closer to me, running it over velvety skin, and soft hairs tickled my hand. I curled my hand under my chin and pressed myself closer to them. Them? My head moved with someone else’s breath, and I froze. The sound of their heartbeat in my ear was deafening and icy tendrils went up my spine. What did I do? I tried to recall what happened last night. But the last thing I could recall was leaving the shop. The drive home was fuzzy, and I couldn’t recall if I got home or not. Where am I? What happened? Who the h*ll am I lying next to? I peeled open my eyes and looked up at who it was. Jay’s face was turned away from me as he slept. My blood ran cold, and I stared at his face. Oh god! We didn’t, I couldn’t have! Why, how, what did I do? My thoughts raced, and I couldn’t take my eyes off his face. Is he n*ked? He has to be. I could feel his skin all over mine, burning against me. I wanted to jump up and run away, but it would wake him. Slowly, I lifted myself up to sit, grimacing. He completely n*ked, but even worse, so was I. Did we have s*x? My heart raced at the idea, and my hands shook. I would remember, right? I glanced down, away from his face. His chest was surprisingly hairless for a wolf, with fine brown hair that matched his head. He was muscular, with a small trail of hair that led to his belly button. Creases on each of his hips pointed down to his d*ck. No! No no no! I squeezed my eyes shut before I’d gotten a good look. I don’t need to see his d*ck! Think of something else! Anything else! But the image was there, behind my eyelids. His toned, exposed belly and groves on his hips were staring at me. My skin tingled where we’d been touching. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, and I squeezed my eyes shut tighter. “Lick him!” Lilith squealed at me. An image popped into my head of me licking his belly, and I could almost taste his skin. Shut up! You don’t get a vote! You got us into this mess, didn’t you? “He looks tasty!” She snapped back. Go away! “Open our eyes!” They’re my eyes, not yours! “You’re boring! He’s fun!” She rumbled like she was pleased. Oh god, you didn’t! Did you? My core tightened and my heart pounded in my chest. “Maybe.” She taunted, and suggestive images came to mind. My face burned and tingles went up my spine. Stop that! I opened my eyes, and the images went away. I stared at his face, unable to look anywhere else. He was angelic while asleep, his face relaxed and unable to spew rude comments. His stubble had grown out a bit, and my fingers itched to run through it. Stop thinking like that! Get your head together! Please tell me we didn’t have s*x. It doesn’t feel like we did. There was no wetness, no weird sloshing between my legs. She was just messing with me. But I couldn’t be sure, and I knew I wouldn’t stop wondering if I didn’t find out. Clenching my teeth together, I stared at his d*ck. It’s clean! And fl*ccid! Relief washed over me, and I sighed. “Touch it!” Lilith said. No! “It’ll be fun! It’s big!” Stop it! Jay groaned and bumped his leg against mine. His head turned towards me, and his eyes opened. I slapped my hands over his eyes with a loud smack. “Ow! What the f*ck?” He shouted. “Close your eyes!” I yelled, panic filling my voice. “You could’ve said that before slapping my eyeballs!” He grumbled but didn’t try to move my hands. “You wouldn’t have listened.” I hissed. “Sure I would. Think you could loosen your grip? Feels like you’re trying to squeeze my eyes out.” “Oh.” I loosened my grip but made sure there was no way he could see through my fingers. I have to get home. My stomach dropped, and I looked around us, still covering his eyes. We were under some oak trees, near a meadow. Nothing looked familiar. Sh*t. “How long have you been awake?” “Not long.” Just keep your d*mn eyes closed. I scented the air, but I couldn’t smell the way home. Where are we? “Were you looking at me?” His voice was playful, taunting. “No.” I said too fast. He grinned, and I felt his brows move under my hands. “That’s a lie.” “That’s an ambiguous question and you know it!” I twisted around, looking behind me. I had to sit up a little to keep my hands over his eyes. More grassy hills were behind me, with oaks proving dappled shade. He chuckled and made a rumbling sound in his chest. It was pleasant yet threatening. Fingers brushed against my *ss, trailing down the back of my thigh. Hot sparks danced across my skin, making me jump. “Don’t me touch!” I shouted, sitting up more. I was on both of my knees, bent over him, holding my hands over his eyes. His chest rumbled again, and my stomach did flips and my skin ached where his fingers had been. My heart pounded against my rib cage and his lips tugged up into a smile. “I didn’t think you’d be into something so k*nky right away.” A smug smile crossed his face. “Gross!” I shouted, and nearly raised my hands. “Hey!” His brows furrowed under my hands. “That’s plain rude, there’s not much worse you can say to a man!” He sounded genuinely hurt. “Maybe you need knocked down a peg!” “I’m a d*mn work of art!” “You’re arrogant!” “Tell me I’m not! Go on, say it!” He growled, facing me. If my hands weren’t covering his eyes, I would’ve sworn he was looking at me. I ground my teeth together, and bit my tongue, knowing d*mn well I couldn’t say otherwise. “You woke up and assumed I wanted to have s*x with you.” “Come on, Gwen, don’t play d*mb! You have to admit, this is a very s*xually charged situation! I’m n*ked and vulnerable and you’re covering my eyes!” He moved his hands around while talking. It does look bad. My position was the same I’d take if I was going to straddle him. He didn’t have to jump there, though! “You have a filthy mind!” I growled. I should’ve run while he was asleep! “You think I’m a deviant for thinking this feels s*xual?” “I-I think you're some kind s*x fiend! It’s all you think about!” I snapped at him. I looked down at him and thought about jabbing him in the throat to remove his awful smirk. “Maybe it is? So what? S*x feels good. We’re wolves; why not enjoy not the pleasure nature provided us?” He shrugged, and I pressed harder on his face so my hands wouldn’t accidentally slip. “It’s mechanical, that’s it!” I growled. “Mechanical? Oh, you poor thing. Who’s hurt you?” His voice went soft, and he frowned. I snarled at him, fire coursing through my veins. Why am I even talking to him about this? “Where are we? What the h*ll did you do to me last night?” “Me? You came onto my territory.” “We didn’t… do anything, did we?” Why would my wolf come here? Probably for trouble, st*pid thing! “You don’t remember?” “Answer the question!” “We didn’t have s*x. We ran around as wolves, that’s all.” “We’re on your territory still?” “Yes. Can’t you smell it?” I growled, making my chest vibrate. D*mn wolf, getting me into trouble! Fire burned in my belly, coursing through my veins. “Here’s what’s going to happen: I’m going to uncover your eyes and go home. You’re going to keep your eyes closed and stay here for thirty minutes after you stop hearing my footsteps.” I leaned closer and whispered in a threatening tone. “And if you peep, you better make it worth it, because it’ll be the last thing you see. Is that a lie?” “No.” His voice had a hint of fear, yet his lips twitched like he was trying not to smile. “Do we have an understanding?” “Yes. I’ll keep my eyes closed. “Good. I’m lifting my hands now.” I lifted them and his eyes were closed. I glared at him, reached back, and grabbed his hand. He twitched and his eyes squeezed shut. I moved his hand, placing it on his chest, so he couldn’t ‘accidentally’ touch me while I got up. I stood and backed away. Which way is home? I glanced around, keeping my eye on him. A tree in the distance looked vaguely familiar, so I headed in its direction. “Where are you going?” He called out after I’d taken maybe twenty steps. “I told you; I’m going home!” I shouted. “That’s the wrong way.” He said, in a matter-of-fact tone. I stomped my foot and snarled. “Stop messing with me!” “You’re headed to Roger Sinclair’s property. I can smell his scent on the breeze.” F*ck! I stormed back over to him. “Your eyes better still be closed!” I said through gritted teeth. “They are.” He laughed. I stopped near him and put my hands on my hips. “Since this is your territory, which way do I go?” I snarled and scanned the area. “I don’t know.” “What do you mean, you don’t know?” “I can’t see.” “I’d like to kick you.” “Do it. Find out what happens.” He rumbled and smirked at the sky. His hands were clasped together on his chest. I stood at his head, facing him. “Keeping your eyes closed, sit up.” “Yes, ma’am.” He did I said, sitting up with his back to me. “Keeping your head forward, open your eyes and tell me which way to go.” “Ah. We’re quite far from your property line.” “But you know where we are?” “Yes. “Which way do I go?” “That way.” He pointed in front of him, a bit to the right. “Close your eyes then, so I can get out of here.” “It’s a long walk.” “I’ll manage.” “Fine. But when you get to the river, good luck finding a good place to cross.” “I’ll figure it out!” “Alright. But so you know, my property has a few runoff streams, and they can be surprisingly deep this time of year.” He shrugged. “Just give me instructions!” “You could come back to my place, and I’ll drive you home?” He offered. And have everyone see me show up in his truck? In his clothes? “Absolutely not!” I snarled. “Want me to show you the way?” He offered in a hopeful tone. The idea of wandering through the woods together, in his territory, made my skin prickle. But even worse was wandering around, getting lost, and going onto someone else’s territory. “Fine. But you better not turn around!” “Yes, yes, I know. You don’t want me to look at you. I'll keep my head forward. You must think I’m pretty awful, assuming I’m going to look at someone who doesn’t want me to.” He got up, and I covered myself with my hands. But he stood in a smooth motion, keeping his head forward. “You assumed we were going to have s*x.” I snarled. My skin ached where he’d touched the back of my thigh. “My apologies. Perhaps I was too eager.” He started walking straight, in the direction he’d pointed. His tone suggested he was serious, as if he’d meant his apology. I glared at his back and followed him. We walked a while, quietly, and I tried to pay attention to the back of his head, making sure he didn't turn to look at me. But I kept catching myself staring at his toned *ss.
