After ripping the basement door off it’s hinges, I sat on the boxes in the basement. I stared at the portal door, ensuring it wouldn’t disappear. Or that someone didn’t sneak out of it. The house was eerily silent, and I welcomed the sound of cars pulling up. Doors slammed and feet stomped around on the floor above me. “In here!” I shouted. People mumbled as they got closer. “Could this place get any creepier?” Ansel muttered as he came down the stairs. “Check the house for people!” He shouted, and the group he’d brought spread out through the house. “I searched earlier. Didn’t find anything, but maybe we should check the yard?” I stood up, the plastic boxes squeaking beneath me. Ansel came into the basement, followed by Amaryllis. They both stared at the basement with disturbed looks
