Chapter 15

Logan gripped the steering wheel tighter as the airport came into view. Savannah sat beside him, her mind racing. The message from her father repeated in her head like a mantra: Vault 417. Zurich. Trust no one. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” she asked softly. Logan glanced at her. “No. But it’s our only shot.” They parked in the long-term lot, grabbed their bags, and headed inside. Logan’s eyes constantly scanned the crowd, searching for any sign of danger. Savannah felt her pulse quicken, knowing they were being hunted. At the check-in counter, Logan handed over two fake passports. Savannah blinked at the names: Emily Lawson and Jack Cole. “Prepared much?” she whispered. “Always,” Logan muttered back, giving her a small smirk. Once through security, they settled at their gate, the tension thick between them. “Logan,” Savannah whispered, leaning closer, “what if my dad never makes it out?” Logan took her hand, squeezing gently. “We’ll get the vault key. Then we’ll get your dad back.” She nodded, her eyes searching his. “Why did you stay, Logan? You could’ve just turned me in.” Logan’s jaw clenched. “I tried to convince myself it was just a job. But you... you changed everything.” Savannah felt her heart flutter, but before she could respond, Logan’s eyes narrowed over her shoulder. “Don’t turn around,” he whispered, his tone sharp. Her breath caught. “What?” “There’s a man by the coffee shop. Black jacket, sunglasses. He’s been following us since security.” Savannah’s stomach dropped. “What do we do?” “Act normal,” Logan said softly. “We board first. Once we’re in the air, we’ll figure it out.” The flight was called, and they moved quickly. Savannah felt the man’s gaze burn into her back, but she didn’t dare look. Once seated, Logan finally exhaled. “We’re not safe yet, but we’ve bought some time.” Savannah nodded, resting her head on his shoulder. But her peace was short-lived when Logan’s phone buzzed once more. No matter where you go, we’ll find you. Savannah’s breath hitched. “They know.” Logan’s eyes darkened. “Let them come.” As the plane took off, Savannah whispered, “What if The Broker is someone we know?” Logan turned to her, realization dawning in his eyes. “What if... they’ve been close all along?” Savannah shivered. “We have to find that vault before they do.” “Then we better prepare,” Logan whispered, his lips brushing her ear. “Because this fight is far from over.” And as the plane soared through the night, neither of them knew that The Broker was already two steps ahead.
