The car sped down the dark coastal highway, headlights slicing through the night. Savannah stared out the window, her mind a swirl of confusion and fear. Her family? What could they possibly have to do with all this?
“Logan,” she finally whispered, her voice trembling, “what if... what if there’s something I don’t know? Something about my parents?”
Logan kept his eyes on the road, his grip tight on the steering wheel. “We’ll figure it out. I promise.”
“But what if they’re right?” she pressed. “What if my family isn’t who I thought they were?”
Logan glanced at her, his expression softening. “Even if that’s true, it doesn’t change how I feel about you.”
Her heart ached at his words, but the weight of uncertainty lingered. She needed answers.
Hours later, they pulled into a secluded motel, far from the beach house that had felt like a dream just days ago. Logan secured the room and double-checked every lock and window before sitting beside her on the bed.
Savannah rubbed her temples. “Who is The Broker, really?”
Logan sighed. “No one knows their true identity. They manipulate people—politicians, CEOs, even criminals. If they think you have something, it’s serious.”
Savannah exhaled sharply. “But I don’t have anything.”
“Maybe you don’t,” Logan said softly. “But someone close to you might.”
Suddenly, Savannah’s phone buzzed. She hesitated before looking at the screen. Another unknown number.
“You can’t hide forever, Savannah. Ask your father about Zurich.”
Her blood ran cold. “Zurich? My dad’s never even been to Switzerland.”
“Or so you thought,” Logan muttered, taking the phone from her. “We need to call him.”
“No,” Savannah said quickly. “If he’s involved, I need to see him in person.”
Logan frowned. “That’s risky.”
“I need to know the truth,” she insisted. “Please.”
He stared at her for a long moment, then nodded. “Okay. We’ll find him.”
As they planned their next move, neither noticed the black SUV parked across the street, headlights off. Inside, a figure watched them closely, a phone pressed to their ear.
“They’re on the move,” the figure whispered. “We’ll be ready".
