Chapter 13.

Savannah’s heart raced as the man stepped closer, a sinister smirk tugging at his lips. Behind him, two more figures appeared, each armed and expressionless. “Logan,” Savannah whispered, fear creeping into her voice. Logan’s grip on his gun tightened, his body tense. “Stay behind me,” he muttered, his voice low and steady. The man chuckled darkly. “You really thought you could run, didn’t you?” His eyes flicked to David. “And you... you thought you could hide forever.” David stood slowly, his face pale but determined. “Leave my daughter out of this.” “Wish I could,” the man said with mock regret. “But see, The Broker doesn’t like loose ends. And Savannah here... well, she’s become a bit of a problem.” Savannah’s fists clenched. “I don’t have whatever it is you’re looking for.” “Oh, but you do,” the man replied smoothly. “Even if you don’t realize it.” Logan moved swiftly, grabbing Savannah’s hand and pulling her toward the back door. “Run!” he shouted, firing a shot that shattered a lamp and sent the men diving for cover. Savannah’s father followed, urgency in his every step. “Go! I’ll hold them off!” “No!” Savannah cried, but David shook his head firmly. “I’ll find you,” he promised, shoving her out the door just as the men recovered and aimed their weapons. Gunfire erupted behind them as Logan dragged Savannah toward the car. “We have to go!” Tears blurred Savannah’s vision as she stumbled into the passenger seat. “We can’t just leave him!” “We don’t have a choice,” Logan said grimly, flooring the gas pedal. As they sped away, Savannah’s chest tightened with guilt and fear. She gripped the edge of her seat. “Logan... what if they...” “He’s smart,” Logan reassured her, though his jaw was clenched tight. “We’ll find him.” But as the road stretched ahead, Savannah’s mind swirled with questions. What exactly had her father hidden? And more terrifyingly... what if The Broker found it first? Logan reached over, his hand squeezing hers. “We’ll figure this out. Together.” Savannah nodded, leaning into him for strength. But deep down, she knew—this was far from over.
