Chapter Five-Alpha

1145 Words
Jyra’s POV “The Rogue who became Alpha!” I pictured how phenomenal and how much of a comeback it was. The thought of starting my new life here as their Alpha was all I needed to get rid of my previous life of misery and betrayal. I tapped on the pump of bike again, swerving from side to side with one hand. “You are actually very good!” My wolf commended me and i blushed, my cheek bone hurting. I came down from the bike and did a little victory dance while hailing and commending myself. My wolf laughed hardly, and rolled its mental eyes on me. “You are overreacting.” “You know you hardly compliment me so i am taking this one really personal.” “Here we go again.”she scoffed. “I have a few more tricks up my sleeves, let me show you!” I hopped back on the bike, familiarizing with the motions and learning more tricks, turns and cartwheels. I continued learning and practicing for weeks, borrowing reborn people’s bikes and just handling them like it was a trophy. “Are you still here?” An older lady approached me, pushing a bike by her side. “Yes i am, good day ma’am.” “You know i have been monitoring you and i have noticed something about you.” For some reason, my heart started jolting. What if she noticed that i was not reborn! That i was a stranger roaming in their midst. And worse of all, what of she notices that i am a rogue, a pack less and useless wolf. “You are overthinking this.” “I noticed your perseverance. How you keep practicing everyday, and how you grow in your skills with the bike.” I smiled, tucking my head. Relief washed through me. “Thank you ma’am, i really appreciate.” “You are welcome and i think you should compete in the Alpha race in two days.” “Hmm, i have not thought about that actually.” I lied. I have been thinking about it for a long time. Infact, that was all that was on my mind everytime i rode a bike. “You should participate.” “I don't think I will win?” The lady smiled, her gold tooth showing off. “I know you would. I have been in this pack for over two decades and i have not seen skill as good as yours. They are all you need to become Alpha here.” I asked a couple more questions before hopping back up on the bike and practicing some twists and turns that I would be using to my advantage in others on the field, so I would win. The day of the Biker race finally came and even though i was very excited about it, my wolf was indifferent. I looked at the hatch i slept in, sighed and went through with my morning rituals. When i was done, i buckled up my gear and dusted a bike I rented and started making my way to the field where the race is supposed to be held. “Are you sure about this! This is your final period to opt out.” “I have given this a thorough thinking and i think it is the the best decision i have ever made.” “If anything goes wrong, it is on you.” “If I perish, we perish”. I reminded my wolf, she snarled. I entered the big field and my mouth dropped. Everything was beautifully put together. From the tarred fields that had beautiful dimmed lights beneath it to the number palettes that had names of judges on them. In the middle of the race field were structures like merry go rounds, twisted cyclic walls and shapes to fill up with the bike exhaust. “Good morning reborns.” The loud announcement shook me, and i saw some wolves strolling into the field with their bikes by their sides. “Every year, we come together to pick an Alpha amongst us and the ritual is for the Alpha to have the best biking skills.” The crowd applauded and rejoiced. I started moving forward with my own bike, and i heard whispers from the crowd. There were chatters asking who i was and where i came from. “This time, we are doing something different. Never done before.” The crowd gasped, and fell silent waiting for the next bomb to drop. “So, after completing the rounds set up in the field, the contender has to do the hardest task with a bike. Three backflips in a row.” “But that is impossible.” Someone from the audience yelled out. “Until it is done.” The host replied, cunningly. The crowd was shocked and i saw some competitors panic. I was more excited, backflips on a bike was a piece of cake for me. I got this win. This win would cancel out all the losses, betrayal from my twin sister, the death of my mother and the abandonment from my former pack. Engines started, helmets were worn and the green flag was flung. Every racer started moving, doing their best to finish up a challenge. I was amazed by good they were but i knew i was better. I felt better. Which was weird because i have never felt this way in my life. I was always known to be the quiet one who would end up defeated and thrown away, like a piece of trash. At the end of the barricade, we were just two contenders left, and the finish lime was just one backflip away. The second contender did hers first, but on the third phase of the backflip, she fell down and emergency services rushed to her. “ONE MAN STANDING.” I inhaled and closed my eyes, doing the three backflips simultaneously and landing smoothly. I also added a few tricks I practiced earlier and the crowd was amazed. I won the race and was given the microphone to address the crowd. I stood up on the podium, taking a moment to turn my stutters into words. I did not know what to say but i was definitely not going to start my duty as an Alpha with lies. Lying was what Jurrade does, and i was not going to emulate her. “Thank you for this opportunity, i am truly grateful. But before i wear the crown of this pack, i have a very important thing to say…” “Don’t say it!” “Don't you dare throw us into the lion’s mouth”. My wolf warned. I swallowed hard. “I am not a reborn. I am a rogue.” The whole place exploded with noise.
