Envy

Mateo "Where are you?" I asked impatiently for the third time. I was in disbelief that Alice would just take off like that. I knew my brother was capable of this but her. This feeling I had deep down wasn't good. I felt hurt in so many ways. "Mateo," her sweet voice called in the background. "Brother, let me speak to her," I said. "No," Santiago said bluntly. "This isn't funny," I said. "Or fair." "I don't care, we will be home in two days," he said. "TWO DAYS!" I shouted. "You have got to be kidding me." My brother quickly hung up on me without letting me speak to Alice. I didn't know where they were but I knew they weren't in the country. I was angry and didn't know what to do. If I knew where she was, I would fly to her. Was that crazy? I would do that for her. She was worth all this trouble with my brother. I knew he felt the way I did about her. I knew he didn't want to share. I was envious of their relationship. He met her first but still, I had a bond with her too. Didn't I? Alice "Santi," "Santi," "Santi!" I moaned uncontrollably. "Only my mother calls me that but I will allow you to do so also," Santiago said. "Fuck." We had been in London for two days now. I had been complaining much but I wanted to speak with Mateo. I missed him and I knew he would worry about us. But here I was having hot shower s*x with his older brother. I was trying to be good I was but I was lost in these moments with Santiago. My arms stretched out scratching the tile wall in front of me as Santiago pounded me from behind. His hands tightly gripped my waist. Santiago only went to work once. Mostly we stayed in bed. It was nice but I didn't understand what we were doing. "When are we going home?" I asked him. "You want to leave? So soon?" Santiago said. "Mateo is a big boy. He can handle some days alone." "Could you?" I retorted. Santiago gave me a dirty look. "I thought we had rules." "He broke them, remember," "So did you and you are breaking them again," I told him. "I won't apologies for seizing a moment and wanting what I want," Santiago admitted. "I want to talk about something else." "Shoot," "When will you go to the doctor?" "Oh," I didn't really know what to say. "I took a test." "And?" "Well, it was what I said it was," "Alice," "I'm pregnant," "We knew that already," "So why did you make me say it," "I wanted to confirm it before we did anything," "Anything like what?" "We need to find out who the father is," "That we won't know for a few more months," I told him. "I know but we need to set clear boundaries and figure out what we are going to do," "Boundaries," "I won't let my child call another man father," "Santiago," I took a deep breath. "You of all people should understand this. You, you call two men father, don't you." "I didn't have a choice," "You do now. As an adult, you can choose but you don't for the sake of your mother and both of your fathers," I explained to him. "I don't know what this means or how this will work but I need you to help me." "I never envied my brother. He never had anything I wanted. He has no ambition or goal set out for himself. He doesn't want to have anything to do with our company. He is a man-child. Almost becoming an embarrassment to our family name." "Santi," "But he changed. I see it, because of you but it is not enough to help him be a good father," Santiago explained. "He still wants to pursue his music and be famous." "So?" "Are you telling me you want to hold him back?" "Really?" "You know what I mean," "Actually, I don't," "I am just telling you that Mateo isn't ready for this," "And you are?" "Of course," he said proudly. "I have my job and I run the company partially by myself. I have done everything to make sure I can provide for my future family." "Did you always want a family?" Santiago didn't answer me. "I am doing everything right," Santiago began. "I do everything right. I am the better man." "f**k, Santiago, stop," I shouted. "I can't do this. I didn't want to do this. You started all of this." I began to pace around the room. "Alice, this game we began to play was just temporary. I thought you knew that," "Game?" "Bad choice of words," "Obviously," "I have an event to go to tonight," Santiago said. "I bought you a dress. Do you want someone to do your hair and makeup?" "Is that necessary?" "Up to you," Santiago laughed softly. "I can do it myself," I told him. I headed to the room to put on the dress. It was breathtaking. It was an off the shoulder drape sleeve red dress with a thigh-high slit. I was more in love with the shoes. Black stiletto heels with a sparkling diamond bow on top. Santiago even managed to get me a clutch to match. "You look incredible," Santiago said as I stepped out into the living room. "Thank you," I smiled. "Ready?" Santiago took my hand and tucked it into his arm. We headed downstairs and into a black car. Santiago was wearing a black tux. He looked like a model and a big badass CEO. "Who are you texting?" I asked him. "My mother," he replied. Mateo "So, she is really pregnant," I heard my mother say. "Wow," my father answered. "Who's pregnant?" I asked. They all three stared at me for some time. "Mother?" "Oh, a good friend of mine, I think she is too old," my mother joked. "Maya," my father said sternly. "What?" she replied. "I won't lie to my son," he said. "And you would betray mine," Nathan said. "This is none of our business." "What the hell is going on?" I asked angrily. "Mateo," my mother said softly. "I am so sorry." I never thought I would envy my brother more than I already do but at this moment. I do. I envy him but I also hate him. I hate him more than I thought possible.
