On the day of the trial, the courtroom at Mantuis Supreme Court was packed. I sat at the plaintiff's table in a tailored white suit. Behind me sat a legal team that billed by the minute and rarely lost. Across the aisle, Lucas looked like a man already waiting for the verdict. After spending the last of his hidden savings, he had managed to hire a cheap, inexperienced lawyer. The difference showed immediately. My lawyers presented evidence one piece after another. Every argument was backed by facts. The young defense lawyer barely kept up. By the second hour, he was drenched in sweat. By the third, he could hardly put together a complete argument. The trial became a one-sided beating. Four hours later, the judge finally raised the gavel. "The court is ready to issue its ruling.
