The Bloodfangs came like a storm. Their howls echoed through the forest as they charged from the treeline, a sea of dark fur and gleaming teeth. Alina’s heart pounded as she raised her blade, bracing for the impact of the attack.
The first wave crashed into the eastern flank with terrifying force. Alina and Ronan moved in sync, fending off the attackers with swift, coordinated strikes. Bloodfangs snarled and snapped, their eyes glowing with bloodlust as they lunged at the defenders.
The battle was chaos. All around her, Alina could hear the clang of weapons, the snarls of wolves, and the cries of the wounded. She fought with everything she had, her muscles straining as she deflected blow after blow. Ronan was a blur of motion beside her, his sword slicing through the air with deadly precision.
Despite their efforts, the Bloodfangs were relentless. For every one they cut down, two more took its place. Alina’s arms burned from the effort, her breaths coming in ragged gasps, but she refused to slow down. The pack was counting on them.
At the center of the battle, Kael’s group was holding their ground, but barely. The Bloodfangs had focused the brunt of their attack on his position, attempting to break through the heart of the pack’s defenses. Alina could see Kael in the distance, his golden blade flashing as he fended off the attackers, but even he was struggling under the onslaught.
“We need to push them back!” Alina shouted to Ronan over the din of battle. “If they break through the center, we’re finished.”
Ronan nodded, his face grim. “Let’s go.”
With renewed determination, they surged forward, cutting their way through the mass of Bloodfangs. The ground beneath their feet was slick with blood, the air thick with the smell of sweat and steel. Alina’s vision narrowed, her focus solely on the fight in front of her. There was no room for hesitation, no room for fear.
Suddenly, a massive Bloodfang lunged at her from the side, its jaws snapping dangerously close to her neck. Alina barely managed to dodge, stumbling as she raised her blade to defend herself. The creature was fast—too fast. It tackled her to the ground, its teeth bared in a snarl as it pinned her down.
Panic surged through Alina as she struggled beneath the weight of the beast. She could feel its hot breath on her skin, its claws digging into her shoulders. Desperately, she reached for her blade, but the Bloodfang’s massive paw pressed down on her wrist, preventing her from grabbing it.
Just as the creature was about to sink its teeth into her throat, Ronan appeared out of nowhere, driving his sword into the Bloodfang’s side. The beast let out a howl of pain, its grip on Alina loosening just enough for her to roll out from under it.
Alina scrambled to her feet, her chest heaving as she raised her blade once more. With a swift strike, she finished off the wounded Bloodfang, sending it crashing to the ground in a lifeless heap.
“Thanks,” she panted, glancing at Ronan.
He grinned, though it was tinged with exhaustion. “You’d do the same for me.”
Before they could catch their breath, another wave of Bloodfangs surged toward them. Alina’s grip tightened on her blade as she prepared to meet the attack head-on. The battle was far from over.
As the sun rose higher in the sky, the pack continued to fight with everything they had. They were outnumbered, outmatched, but they refused to give up. Alina’s body screamed in protest with every movement, but she pushed through the pain, her mind focused on one thing: survival.
In the distance, she saw a flash of movement—Kael, surrounded by Bloodfangs. He was fighting fiercely, but he was overwhelmed. Alina’s heart lurched in her chest as she realized he wouldn’t be able to hold them off much longer.
“We have to help Kael,” she said urgently to Ronan, her voice hoarse from shouting.
Ronan nodded, and together, they began to carve a path toward the center of the battlefield, where their leader was making his last stand.
The battle was reaching its c****x, and the fate of the pack hung in the balance.
