Chapter 17

Chapter 17 Jayda hurried to the switch to turn on the newly fixed Edison bulbs in the shop. She opens her eyes in shock at the beauty of the entire interior. The bulbs did the icing on the cake making everywhere glow up like a dreamland. She smiled at her newly accomplished goal with pride. She changed almost all the furniture as well as repainted the wall and got a few machines to add to the existing ones. The interview for a few positions will be held today and although it's scheduled for three in the afternoon, three candidates already arrived by one. She's planning on hiring a Cashier, one cleaner, for now, one barista, two salesperson and two assistant bakers. By six, she'd finished everything and gotten her workers who will be resuming the coming week which is in two days. Jayda will be using the weekend to stock up the shop with goods. Shawn arrives just before she could turn off the Edison bulbs that mostly gave the source of light in the room. "Hi" he walks closer to her and gives her a brief kiss on the lips. "Hi" she replied in astonishment "you didn't tell me you're coming" "Surprise" He shrugged and grabbed her into a passionate hug with one arm. Jayda giggles like a child. "My shift's done for the day so I felt like taking you somewhere" She groans in tiredness knowing she has a lot to do this weekend. "I am very sorry because I'll have to turn this down. I'm so exhausted from all the work today and the only thing I need right now is a shower, food and bed." "We can go my place" she said the instant she noticed how disappointed he looks and know the kind of person Shawn is, Jayda is sure he's made reservations somewhere but she just can't go plus, she still has a lot to do the next day and a night well spent on rest will gear her up fully tomorrow. "Is that okay?" She asks "Perfect," He says as she finally notices his other arm has been behind his back the whole time. "Flowers?" It's really no longer a surprise because Shawn has been bringing those since they got back together. "I brought these for you" He brings out the bouquet of sunflowers. "At this rate, I think I'll own a flower shop soon," She says sarcastically and chuckles. "Then I'll be buying you a lot more so you don't run out of stock." He returns her sarcasm. Since Jayda's place is a walking distance from Euphoria, they hold hands as they trekked back to her apartment. "Why did you download Chase App? Seems to me you were quick to move on too" Jayda said unapologetically knowing he could have found someone else if she wasn't registered on the app and all this romance won't exist. "Truth be told, I was..you know... I was up one lonely night wanting to.." "Have s*x?" Jayda figured that must be what he wants to say to exude such hesitation. He nods in affirmation. "Yes. I was looking for someone who shared the same motto and after seeing a lot of ladies with too much botox, cheek fillers and enhanced fake-looking lips, I came across your profile. Even though I couldn't believe it's the real you, I've been told Chase App has a zero-tolerance policy to any form of catfishing which is why they conduct a facial recognition before uploading your picture and anytime you want to change it for verification. " I should have known better than to put my real name as the username. I should have gone with something generic, but, most importantly, fake." She giggles lightly. "Even with a fake name, as long as you have that picture, I would still give it a shot thinking the tiniest chance it could be you using a different name" "You have no idea how relieved I felt when I saw that it was actually you. I had doubts because you wouldn't give me your number" "That, I did on purpose. You're the only one I have been talking to on the app and just in case I end up not liking you, I didn't want any form of other communication that'll allow you to start bombarding me with irrelevant phone calls and text messages." They laugh. "So why'd you join?" He asks. "I was just curious to see what the fuss is all about. My daughter downloaded and registered me. She even put up the about me bio without my consent. I saw a couple of young guys...way too young. It felt off and worse when I saw your message and read it in a misunderstanding way" "I'm glad it's the real you," He says, lifting the brief silence that fell. "When I'm done tomorrow, we can go with Selena to that place you wanted to show me" Jayda suggested thinking it will be fun if the trio go instead. "Unless its no place for kids" "No, it's fine. Are you sure you'll be able to make it? You have a long day tomorrow, we can move it to Sunday before she gets picked up in the evening" "I only have Lucy on Sunday this week. Don't worry, it'll be fine. I'll live" Jayda switch on the main bulb that powered the room as they walk in. Even though it is his third time being here, he still feels for her living condition. He couldn't bear the thought of her sleeping on the floor much longer. He's aware she's spent all she has on the renovation and basic needs for Euphoria and has attempted a number of times to help out but Jayda wouldn't budge. She's comfortable and willing to stay that way until she makes more money and able to afford a few pieces of furniture. "Don't give me that face" She counters, knowing he's about to offer her help again. "What face?" "The Jayda you need to let me do this, face" she mimics using the voice of a wicked witch from a cartoon. Shawn heaves a sigh and kisses her deeply. "Tonight, I'm cooking. What does my lady want?" He asks Jayda smiles. "Anything you can find in the kitchen. I'll eat anything" She takes off into the shower while Shawn starts to cook.
