Chapter 19

Chapter 19 After the finishing touches, Jayda stared at her just-concluded creation. The two tiers red velvet cake had red crumbs around and layered with dripping like cheese butter frosting coupled with an animated picture of Moana in the middle. It's a couple of minutes past two and she is more than happy to have finished the job on time. She took a quick peep at the cake one more time before calling it a night. Although her house is just a few blocks away, Jayda couldn't take the risk of going back home especially because of the dark ally she'll need to walk through before her house. She'd brought all her toiletries in the morning and a change of clothes. She makes a mental gratitude for that. She contemplates calling Shawn, not wanting to disturb him in case he's asleep but then again, she needs to shut her eyes too. It's been a busy opening day and coupled with this order, it is only natural for her to just go to bed. Feeling too tired to take a shower, Jayda switches off the Edison bulbs and then walk towards her office. Just as she was about to close her eyes, her phone beeped. She made a slight groan at the caller ID. She'd wanted to talk to Shawn before but now that her head is rested on the table she doesn't feel the need to talk to him anymore. Jayda finally shut her eyes after putting her phone on do not disturb. ******** Jayda opened her eyes after what felt like someone tapping her woke her up. She hurriedly got off the table after realising it's daybreak. She quickly picks off her phone to check the time. "s**t!" She cursed after seeing that it's ten minutes after seven, as well as twenty-five, missed calls. Three from Shawn and twenty-two from Client Khloé. "Good morning Madam" the cleaner finally said after watching her for a few minutes. How did she miss so many calls? She then remembered she kept the phone on do not disturb. Very stupid move for someone who needs to deliver something in the morning. She switched off the do not disturb and her phone rang almost immediately. She prayed beneath her breath before picking up Client Khloé's call. "Good morning," "I have been calling you for over an hour. Is this how you treat your customers? Where the hell are you?" Khloé shouted over the phone. " I am so sorry. I am already on my way to the address you gave" "Still on your way by this time? I wanted her to wake up to the cake and now everything is going to be ruined because of you!" "I am so sorry, I will be there in half an hour" "You better" Khloé hang up rudely. Without taking a shower or brushing her teeth, Jayda hurried to the kitchen to pick up the cake with the help of the cleaner. She could have sent someone else to do the delivery but Jayda likes to oversee things like this herself plus, she doesn't have extra money to hire a delivery man so she'll have to do that job in the meantime. *********** Getting to the main gate, Jayda stared in awe at the beauty in front of her. She didn't expect to deliver to such a wealthy looking house. She entered after the gate opened by itself and was welcomed in the living room by a middle-aged woman who she assumed must be the housekeeper. "Is the birthday girl awake?" Jayda asked "She's gone to school" the woman replied nicely. "Oh God" Jayda mouths. Jayda didn't want to talk to the rude client but she has no choice. She needs the child's school address so she can get this done with quickly and head back to the shop. "I just got to the house and..." "She's at school. You are just not competent. I am never going to patronise you ever again. I would have told you not to bother but I can't get a red velvet cake with a picture of Moana this dying minute so I am going to forward her school's address to you." She hangs up. "I'll be heading out" Jayda hurried off to the delivery bike and drove off. "I'm here to drop this off for Isabelle Chase, I was sent here by her mother Khloé," Jayda told the security officer at the gate. "You'll have to hold on ma'am while I out a call through to the school owner who will now confirm your delivery. This will only take a few minutes" The security person replied while dialling the number. Jayda also remembers the last time she came here. She had brought the lost school girl here, hopefully, she'll get to see her and say hi. "You can go in." The security offered said after what seemed like forever. With the help of the school owner, Jayda was able to located Isabelle's class and as she arrived, she made extra effort to sing a happy birthday song from the entrance while holding the cake. "I have a package for Miss Isabelle Chase," Jayda said with a smile on her face and it grew wider when she saw the girl she'd helped. "It's you!" Isabelle hurried to hug her. "How did you know it's my birthday? And how do you know I love Moana?" "So you're the birthday girl! Well, your mum made this grand order for her little princess" Jayda dropped the cake on a desk with the assistance of the class teacher. "Happy birthday once again Isabelle." The owner said before walking out of the kindergarten class. "What's wrong?" Jayda asked after noticing the sad look on her face. "She's never around for my birthday" "Who, your mum?" "Yes," Her face grew sadder. " so sorry about that. No Princess deserves to be left to celebrate her birthday all by herself. I can stay for a few more minutes if you want" Jayda offered and the little girl warmed up to her again. Jayda stayed longer than she had thought and with every passing minute, she wants to stay much longer and have more fun with Isabelle. She helped share the cake to all her classmates, took pictures and even danced with her. By the time it was ten, Jayda knew she had to leave. "Hope you had fun?" Jayda asks "Thank you so much, Ms.." She said joyfully. "Jayda," Jayda said, completing the statement for her.
