Time stretched. Days blurred into nights, nights into mornings. I stopped counting how long I’d been here. Maybe it was the lack of windows in my room. Maybe it was the way every hallway in this massive fortress looked the same. Or maybe it was the fact that I was slowly losing my mind. I tried keeping myself busy. Pacing. Reading. Sleeping. It didn’t help. The walls still closed in. The silence still swallowed me whole. I wasn’t built for this. I wasn’t meant to be a bird in a cage, no matter how golden the bars were. I needed out. Not just out of this place. Out of his control. And the only thing he was still holding over my head—besides my damn freedom—was my future. I found him in his office. I didn't knock. I didn't wait. I didn't care if he was in the middle of something. D
