The Pack - Beta Damien’s POV

Sorting through numbers I need to call to get neighbouring Alpha’s to a urgent meeting first thing in the morning my head a blur having to make the statement in the next hour to the pack about the loss of Alpha, Luna and Arlo when my heart is also breaking. Gammer Stephen comes through the door stares me straight in the eye as if he is staring into my soul “Lexi” he says stiffly “with Elaine she’s not hurt” relief flutters through his eyes “Arlo” he says still not moved now staring me straight in the eye again. Confused I look at him “you was at clean up and escorted the Alpha and Luna’s body to the morgue yes?” Frustrated he barks “of course i was it’s my duty! That is not what I asked” still confused I ask him “did you not find Arlo’s body?” I see the pain of my words hit his eyes “Arlo’s missing? He’s not here? Not with Lexi? His body was not with the Alpha the site was cleared” taking a breath he barks “why are we not looking for him, WHY ARE YOU SAT HERE GOING THROUGH NUMBERS”

“Stephen” I calmly reply “please remember who you are speaking to, I know you are hurting at the loss of our Alpha but as Beta you cannot speak to me like that. I would be out looking for Arlo, if he was alive. If Arlo was alive I would not be sat here going through numbers” holding back the tears and rage wanting to burst out of me, I look back to Stephen his eyes filled with tears “how do you know he’s not alive” he asks almost as a whisper “Lexi felt it all” I rub my hand down my face and lean back in the chair “we will make the announcement to the pack in half hour as you know I’ve called all pack members to the outdoor stage. I am currently calling all neighbouring packs to have their Alpha here first thing in the morning, we will then discuss with the wolf council the packs future and Luna Lexi’s future”

“Luna Lexi” Stephen sighs “she’s five Damien, she’s lost her father, mother and brother in one day, and is now a Luna. What are we going to do”

“Lexi cannot take on her Luna roles until she is of age and until he she has her wolf, so 13 years time she will become our official Luna, until then we will need to discuss with the neighbouring Alphas to help watch our pack for the ultimate decision making but myself and you will run the pack until Lexi is of age.” Although Stephen being the Gammer knows what needs to happen and the steps that need to be taken for our pack he seems to be in shock about what has happened and confused about our next action. Looking at his hands and a twiddling his fingers “I know that Damien I didn’t mean what do we do next I mean what about Lexi she’s five and lost so much how can a five year old process all that heartache, and lead a happy normal childhood” now his gaze reaching mine “she will live with me, Elaine and the boys, she will have a normal upbringing, she’s already loved by the pack and this pack is her family no one will ever replace the love of her mother, father or brother but we can make things as easy as we can for her. Then when she is sixteen we will arrange for her Luna training with a neighbouring Luna in preparation for her becoming our official Luna at the age of eighteen”

Eighteen is young to become a Luna of a pack we don’t even let our warriors fight until the age of twenty, although eighteen is the age the wolves come through and most packs send their pups straight into battle fields, sapphire moon pack does not do that. Our alpha always allowed the eighteen year olds to build their skills and strength in training before sending them to the battle fields or on patrol. Some are lucky enough to find their mates so it gives them chance to settle and some also travel around the different hotels the Alpha owns, they still get to train as every hotel has hidden training grounds from the human public but it gives them chance to bond with their wolf and to control emotions without ‘wolving out’ at a little inconvenience.

Poor Lexi she’s going to be thrown straight in at the deep end.
