The first shift - Lexi POV

I’m back in my apartment after being at the gym, I had a good sparing session with Logan, turns out I’m much stronger now I have my wolf and had to go easy on him, sat on the couch admiring the ring Ty gave me as I look up at the shelves above the tele there sits the two presents my parents left for Arlo and myself all them years ago never opened, I couldn’t bring myself to open them after that day and I still can’t. “What are they?” Casey questions “a gift from my parents one to me and one to Arlo, they were left on the table to give to us once we returned that day, but only I returned. I had them put on that shelf and that’s where they have been since” I walk over to the shelf and run my finger down one of the gifts “why don’t you open it” Casey says “don’t you want to know what’s in there” “not really” my reply not very convincing “we was five it’s probably a silly toy or something”

*the front door bangs open* startled I knock the ornament next to the presents causing it to shatter on the floor “right my sexy Lexi the party can start ARIA is hereeee” “Aria you startled me” I say laughing but frustrated “I know I said the party has started but you don’t need to smash the place up” she glides gracefully toward where I am kneeling gathering the shattered pieces on the floor. Aria is my best girlfriend she’s just over a year older than me, she already has her wolf and met her mate a week after her eighteenth birthday. Her mate is beta to the dark moon pack, once they accepted and marked each other she moved to his pack to be with him. They met when she was on her birthday holiday, Aria is the kind of girl that has a month long birthday, very spoilt and loved by many, she has a slim but toned figure long legs that seem to go on for miles, long ash brown hair which is never a strand out of place, beautiful hazel green eyes which stand out beautifully from her olive skin. Her mate Jacob is ten years older than her and dotes on her, when they met he had lost hope of finding his mate so naturally once he found her he would not let her leave his sight. Secretly I was glad she found him I know Tyler had a soft spot for her, I mean who wouldn’t she is stunningly beautiful but I was always a little jealous of the way he looked at her. I stand and we give each other a hug and kiss on the cheek “happy birthday Little Luna” and gives me a wink, “are you ready for your shift tonight” “I’m a-bit nervous to be honest, but I’m excited to meet Casey in all her glory” a big smile forming on my face “and what is this” she grabs my hand to look at the ring on my finger “my birthday gift from Ty” now smiling ear to ear “awww that boy had the hots for you little Luna” she chuckles “no he doesn’t” I bite back “he loves me as a sister” my smile now fading “ohhh someone’s touchy, anyway hopefully you will find your mate” she starts to bounce excitedly “I need to concentrate on my Luna duties first” trying to change the subject “speaking of Luna duties, we have a party to plan, let’s go find Elaine we have a-lot to do” rolling my eyes I head to the bin to put the broken ornament in there and we head off to find Elaine.

We have been in the Lunas office for what feels like hours going through themes and colour schemes, who knew there were so many different colours of blue, I’m slumped in the chair looking over at Elaine and Aria who are in their element with their charts and swatches occasionally throwing questions my way. I check the time and it’s eight PM “I’m going to grab some dinner and get changed before my shift at ten PM I’ll meet you at the opening at ten” they both look at me and then check the time “ok” they both reply simultaneously “see you then”

I make my way to the pack house kitchen and make myself a turkey, Brie and cranberry sandwich and grab a pack of crisps and rush back to my apartment before anyone can stop me. I eat my sandwich and crisps “Casey are you ready for this” I ask nervously “yes I am, I can’t wait to feel the wind in my fur, it will hurt Lexi but don’t fight it just let me take control and I’ll try to make it as smooth as possible” “I trust you Casey” I make my way to the bathroom and freshen up, I let me my long blonde hair down and curl the ends slightly, I put on some mascara, eyeliner and pale pink lip gloss, I put on my white flowy dress which sits just above my knee it’s solid white dress which has a sparkling mesh over the top, I have a pair of white flip flops to put on for the walk to the opening, I have a small white shoulder bag which has a pair of leggings and crop top in for when I shift back to human form. Checking the time it’s only nine thirty but I’m ready to go, it only takes ten minutes to get to the opening where I will shift for the first time, so I decided to take a slow walk there taking in the fresh air and let my skin soak in the moonlight. I get to the opening and Damien and Elaine are there ready waiting “hello” I wave over to them “I’m early so you must have been really early” I chuckle “it’s not every day we get to see our Luna shift for the first time” Damien says while placing a kiss on my head, Elaine snuggling into Damien’s other arm. “We are so proud of you Lexi” Elaine wiping a tear “your parents will be proud of the woman you have become, they are watching over you” I take them both into a hug “I love you both very much” i say with a chocked up voice “mate” Casey echo’s around my head while jumping with joy I turn to see Logan, Aria and Tyler walking our way, Aria nudging Tyler with her elbow and winking at him “mate” Casey growls “Casey they are just playing they are friends” although I do feel jealous that she touched him. All three of them gather me into a hug Aria to my left, Logan to my right and Tyler sweet smelling Tyler standing opposite me, I’m staring him dead in the eye does he know how much I love him im thinking to myself, you look beautiful he whispers, “beautiful” Aria slaps him on the arm breaking the hug “she’s HOTTT”. Logan still holding on to my right side “you ok Lexi? You ready for what’s about to happen?” The concern coming through in his voice “oh our little trickster has found his soft side” I say giggling and wrapping both arms around him tightly “yes Logan, I’m ready and Casey is ready, we will be ok” “well good, I didn’t want to have to laugh at you in pain” he gives me a cheeky wink.

Damien speaks up “whenever you are ready Lexi, we will all be here for you as support, it will hurt there’s no doubt about it, you are strong and it will be over before you know it and Casey will be on the outside. It will feel strange to you at first but you will adapt quickly” “I’m ready” I remove my flip flops and walk to the open space, the moonlight beaming down on me almost feels as warm as the sun “are you ready for me to take control Lexi” Casey asks calmly I take I deep breath “my body is all yours Casey” my body starts to heat up more, every inch of my body is on fire, I feel my fingers and toes elongating and bones stretching, the pores on my skin opening wider as the beautiful white fur starts to come through, my body falls to the floor as my bones start to c***k and break out of place, I feel as though I’m screaming from the pain at the top of my voice but I don’t hear a sound, the pain on my face as I feel my cheeks breaking and stretching, I hear Damien calling “you are doing fantastic, almost there darling” with one last loud c***k and what feels like being thrown to the back of my body, nothing, the pain has stopped I try to speak but I’m no longer in control it like I’m just a voice inside a mind “are you ok” Casey asks “yes I’m great, just feels a little odd, I can see why you wanted to get out and be free” chuckling with my words Casey looks to everyone I can see what she see, I can feel what she feels we are now as one. Everyone is just staring at us stunned expressions, “woah” Logan shouts out “Casey you are stunning” with that Casey lunges playfully to Damien, trying to get him to shift, still in shock by her beauty he doesn’t move, she nudges him with her nose to let him know she wants to play Damien, Elaine and Aria all shift as Ty and Logan turn to head home Casey pounces up to Tyler and scruffs her fur all around him, Tyler laughing he gives her a scratch behind her ear a low growl almost a purr coming from Casey. “Nice to meet you Casey” he says still chucking away. Casey then turns gives Logan a lick across the face and runs off into the forest. “Eeeewww Casey, dog slobber” Logan calls behind her while wiping his face.

Casey is running through the forest the bouncing on fallen branches, taking in the different smells, hearing all the different sounds, they reach the lake the water glistening in the moon light as they all sit and admire their surroundings Casey howls joyfully to the moonlight her howl echos over the pack lands and one by one the pack members all howl back, a loud joyous sound across the pack land responding to their Luna. We all dive in the lake and run around the forest and play for a few more hours feeling free. We shift back at the opening and head back to the pack house laughing and giggling, I feel so energised, strong and healthy it’s an amazing feeling I actually feel content and happy not a feeling I have had for a very long time. We reach the pack house Aria and I head to my apartment she will be staying until after my Luna ceremony, Jacob her mate will be coming to the ceremony and they will leave the day after.

We crash on the bed and chat for a while before going to sleep.
