You Can Always Go Home

Jude POV I packed my suitcase last night, and had it in the back seat of my car. I headed straight to my parents house after saying good bye to V. I smiled at the nickname I gave her. I know she said no, but I could tell by the twinkle in her eye and the blush on her cheeks that she loves it. The entire five hour drive I think about V. Her laugh, her smile. The warmth of her hand on my arm. My heart squeezes remembering her face when I busted her checking me out today. The memory kept my mood up all afternoon. I still can't believe I caught her like that. I know she is married and I feel a tiny little bit bad about flirting with her so bluntly but she is beautiful inside and out. Her sunshine is warm and addicting. I've only known her for three days and I'm absolutely absorbed in her. I've never felt so free and comfortable with anyone. Kandis and I were together for almost two years and I know I never had a day with her like I did yesterday with V. It was probably the worst day of my entire life, so far, but there's no way I'll ever remember it that way. She completely obliterated my darkest hour with her warm light. I stopped at a small diner for dinner about half way to my parents' house. A small bell dings as I push the door open. The waitress behind the counter looks up from her magazine and pops her gum. Her eyes scan my body and she gets a sexy smile on her face. "Sit where ever you like, handsome. I'll be right over to take care of you." she says, popping her gum again. I give her a smile and a nod and head for a table in the back corner by a window. "What can I interest you in?" she says seductively, biting her bottom lip. Her eyes scanned me again. She's not ugly. She's cute. Her blonde hair is in a long ponytail on the top of her head. Her eye make up is a little heavy but it's sexy. Her green eyes scream her dirty thoughts as they bounce around my chest and arms. She's got a nice set of t**s and her waitress uniform is short and shows off her long legs. I consider her offer, but my gut tells me to eat my dinner and get back on the road. Sorry Darling. "I'll have the cheeseburger and fries, with Mac and cheese and a Coke please." I say focused on her face with a smile as I hand her the menu. Her face falls briefly, but she smiles "Coming right up." I stare out the window watching the cars drive by on the highway. My phone vibrates in my pocket. I fish it out, I assume it's Mom checking in on me. mom: are you on the road? me: yeah I'm about two hours away. I stopped to eat and s**t. Mom: eat? what's wrong with your mother's food? me: it's two hours away and I'm hungry now. mom: fine, but I made you dinner for when you get here. me: mom it's ok. I don't plan on you being awake when I get there. It'll be late. mom: of course we're staying up waiting for you! everyone is so excited about your visit. me: lol it's ok. I'll see you soon. like in the morning "One cheeseburger, fries, Mac and cheese and a Coke." the waitress says as she places the dishes down on the table. "Are you going to need anything else" she asks hopefully. I look around the table and see the ketchup bottle next to the wall. "Nope, all good. Thank you." She gives me a tight smile and walks away. I grab the ketchup and squeeze it all over my fries. Before I start eating I go to return my phone to my pocket when it vibrates again. I debate looking at it, because it's probably my mom arguing about waiting for me. I reluctantly tap the screen, but am surprised to see a social media notification. I never really use my social media account. I only got one so Kandis could tag me in wedding bullshit. What a f*****g mistake that had been. So annoying! Victoria Cummings sent you a friend request. V? It vibrates again in my hand as another notification pops up. Victoria Cummings sent you a message : I'm not a stalker. I promise. 😉 I smile down at my phone. I'm not going to deny it of course but I can make her sweat. I mindlessly start shoving fries in my mouth as I stare at the phone. I tap on the message link and open the conversation. I watch as the three little dots appear and disappear a few times before another message pops up on the screen. Victoria Cummings: it won't hurt my feelings too bad if you don't want to be my friend. 😢 I chuckle and decide to eat before I pick up my phone and accept her friend request. Victoria Cummings: Yay! 😊 I chuckle as I open the settings and change her name. V: Are you serious?!?! I chuckle again as I stand up. I pull out my wallet and throw some money on the table and head to the bathroom. As I approach the waitress at the register I can feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. and I can't help the smile as I hand her my credit card. She obviously misreads my face and quickly writes her number on my receipt before handing it to me with my card. I put the card back in my wallet and throw the receipt away in the parking lot on my way to my car. I pull my phone out and I climb in the car. V: why are you ignoring me!? Jude Jamison: V. it's not safe to drive and text. V: YOU'RE STILL DRIVING!?!?! Jude Jamison: yes. it's a 5 hour drive. V: ew gross! V: But could you accept my friendship while driving? Jude Jamison: I stopped for dinner. V: oh ... V: so you WERE IGNORING ME!? I laugh out loud, smiling like a doofus at my phone. I set it down in the cup holder and start the car. I really need to get back on the road. Especially if Mom's determined to stay up waiting for me. My phone vibrates a few times in the cup holder. I pull out of the parking lot and back onto the highway. Once I'm up to speed and settled in the rhythm of the road, I grab my phone. V has given you a nickname in the chat conversation: Judey Judey V: 😂😂😈 Judey Judey: Really? Judey?? That's the best you could do. V: Honestly? when I hear or think of your name, all I can hear is that Beatles song playing in my head. Judey Judey: oh yeah? you think about me a lot? Judey Judey: hahaha I'm named after that song. V: NO f*****g WAY! V: Your mom must be so cool. Judey Judey: She's the coolest! V: Awww. I knew you were a Mommy's boy!! Judey Judey: To the bone. V and I texted the whole rest of the drive. I pulled into my parents driveway at half past ten. My younger brothers Tate and Mikey come running out of the house and are standing at my door when I open it. "Jude!" they shout at the same time as I step out. They both tackle me for a hug. When I look up I can see my mom and dad standing on the porch. Tate grabs my bag from the back seat and we head onto the house. It feels good to be home.
