Theresa was still a little bit anxious with the premature meeting between Chad and her father Edward but somehow relieved that the first step was now over. Her dad would most likely stop her from introducing her to various men.
One thing she was sure of, she was proud of Chad. Her father can be too critical of strangers. He does his research, he usually looks deeper into a person, even the men he introduces to her on dates. Edward Reed tends to set his standards high in terms of the men that can potentially become her husband.
Husband.
Theresa still cringes on the idea of getting married. She was content with her life. Being alone was never an issue for her. Her father always felt the importance of having someone besides her in the later years of her life.
“I have you,” That’s what she usually replies to her Dad.
“You know that I won’t be able to outlive you. You need someone in your life.” Her father would always say.
“I can check in myself in an adult home service, you do not have to worry about me too much.” She would jokingly tell her dad. But she was serious. She was never worried about being alone in the future.
While she was ordering food to be delivered to Chad’s room, the two men were busy, talking about horses and other animals in Chad’s farm.
“So how did you meet Theresa? I mean, what made you like her?” Edward was looking for the right time to ask.
Chad thought for a while. “She seems like an independent woman, headstrong, fulfilled. She seemed to have everything. Except,” He paused.
“Except for what?” Edward asked.
“Except for the light in her eyes.” He honestly said. “Somehow, I felt the need to make those eyes happier. She would look even more beautiful with light in her eyes.” Chad revealed.
Edward was caught off guard by Chad’s answer. He was supposed to ask more, learn more about Chad. Understand how he feels and assesses what kind of person he is.
But he managed to hit a spot. He was right. Theresa was a young, beautiful, and accomplished woman. But she was sad inside. Ever since her mother left her, his wife, Lena, Theresa lost the light in her eyes.
She looked happy. Theresa always tried so hard to assure her father that she was alright But deep down inside, Edward knew that something was missing. He knew that she somehow felt incomplete, despite everything that they had.
Theresa was competitive, she always strived to be the best. And she managed to do so. Edward knew that part of this was Theresa’s attempt to fill a void inside her. A void that even he, her father could not fill.
This is the main reason why he always wanted Theresa to have someone special, experience love, and be loved. But she always preferred something else.
He became pushy and started introducing his daughter to men. Men that could potentially be her partner in life.
However, as her father, he also made sure that her daughter would be with someone worthy of her. Someone who is capable of taking care of her. Someone who could bring her happiness.
And now, looking at Chad, was he the person who will finally bring back the light in Theresa’s eyes.
“Do you think my daughter is unhappy?” He asked Chad, his tone serious and concerned.
“A little. She looks happy, but she can be happier.” Chad said, massaging the area where his hep lock was attached. “And I hope you could at least allow me to try if I can do that for her.” Chad looked Edward in the eye.
Edward was about to say something but the door opened and Theresa was back.
“You guys seem serious?” She vocally shared what was on her mind.
“No, I was just asking Chad about his farm.” Edward smiled at her. “Did you order food?”
“Yes, Taylor’s Steak.” She said, She sat down on the side of the bed close to her father and close to Chad too.
“Nice!” Edward and Chad both replied in unison.
Theresa smiled. “It will arrive within 20 minutes maximum.”
Chad and Edwards continued talking about Chad’s farms. They were discussing horse breeds, something her father enjoys on top of being a well-celebrated lawyer. She tried to listen and contribute to the conversation but ran out of things to say. She decided to grab Chad’s book, Ravissant, and began reading.
She was starting to love this whole Elf story thing. A fresh read from the usual werewolf and vampire stories that a lot of readers are into nowadays. It’s not that she didn’t fantasize about Robert Pattison and Taylor Lautner back when Twilight was at its peak. However, Elven-inspired stories seem equally entertaining too.
A soft knock on the door interrupted her reading and the two men’s discussion.
“Taylor’s Steak for Ms. Reed.” The delivery guy on the door said. A nurse was standing behind the delivery guy.
“Here, I got it,” Chad tried to reach out to his bag on the table to get his wallet.
“No, lunch is on me,” Edward said, getting a few hundred dollars from his wallet.
“No, I insist,” Chad said, still reaching for his bag.
“Let me. You can take the next tab if you want, but this is on me.” Edward insisted.
“Why don’t I cook for you instead, once I am out of here and better,” Chad suggested. He stopped trying to reach out for his bag.
Edward pulled a table that they can use to eat. Theresa set up the table so they could begin their lunch. She helped Chad sit on the edge of his bed.
Edward and Chad sat side by side while Theresa sat on the opposite side, facing the two.
Chad was struggling with his knife and fork. His good hand was the one with the hep lock. It’s been swelling a little making it hard to move.
Theresa saw him struggling.
Using her knife and fork, Theresa cut the meat for Chad. “There, you can eat now.”
Edward pretended not to notice. But he was somehow happy that Theresa seemed to be genuinely caring for someone.
“Thanks.” Chad smiled at her. Since her Mom passed away, no one took care of him. Well, his dad tried to fill in the gap of her mother’s loss, but it was different having a mom. The care that a father gives to his child is very different from what a mother can give.
They casually talked about everything while they enjoyed their lunch.
After they were done, Edward excused himself. He received a call from his office and had to come there to attend to business personally.
“It was nice meeting you Chad.” Edward offered his hand for Chad to shake. Chad took Edward’s hand. “It is my pleasure too.”
Edward kissed Theresa on the forehead. “Text me if you’ll be home tonight, ok?” He then proceeded to walk to the door.
Edward was about to go out but turned, pointing at Chad. “I’ll look forward to the lunch or dinner you owe me, ok?” He said, smiling.
“Sure, Mr. Reed,” Chad answered back.
Theresa fixed their leftovers and then pushed the table back to place. Chad offered to help. “No, do not worry, I can manage.” She motioned her hand for Chad to stop and sit instead.
When she was done, he helped Chad back to his bed. “That turned out well.” She told him.
“Your dad seems to be a nice guy. I initially thought he would be complicated and uptight.” Chad said while trying to find a comfortable position to sit on the bed.
“Well, it all depends on who he is speaking with. But, honestly, I think he actually likes you.” She sat on the edge of Chad’s bed, on the usual spot where she sits whenever they have conversations like this one.
“So you think I did well?” Chad said.
“Yeah, you seemed genuine.”
“I am. I didn’t have to pretend or lie. Your father didn’t ask too much about us. Mostly about me and the farm really.” He shared.
“That’s nice. It’s actually fun to see dad talking about something else besides his cases and clients. I am certain he had a great time. Thank you.” Theresa was happy that her dad could meet someone outside his work and actually have a great time.
Chad took her hand, lifted it towards his face, and kissed it. “Anything for you.” He winked. “And it was nice meeting your Dad too. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did when you get to meet my Dad.”
“You want to introduce me to your Dad, as in us?” Theresa was quite hesitant. Chad noticed.
“You are not ready yet?”
“Maybe it's too early?” She said, Her voice and reaction were somehow weighing how Chad would react.
“No worries, some other time maybe.” Chad was patient with her. “For now I guess I’ll have to impress your Dad with my cooking skills.” He knew he had to shift the conversation.
“Don’t worry, Dad’s not too complicated when it comes to food. And you’ll do great, I am certain of it.”
“Did I really do great?”
“Yes.” Theresa’s answer was short. She couldn't find the right complement to give Chad. He was outstanding, almost perfect to say the least. She wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate to say it out loud.
Chad moved closer to Theresa, “Do you think I deserve a kiss for how today turned out?” He suggested.
Theresa moved closer to Chad too. She placed her hand on both his cheeks and moved her face close to Chad’s.
“Do I think you deserve a kiss? Hmmm. Let me think about it.” She whispered while placing her lips just inches away from Chad’s. She looked dreamily into his eyes.
“So are we going to play the teasing game?” Chad replied, his voice a little bit huskier than usual.
“I think we shall,” Theresa replied. She could literally hear her heart beating on her chest as she plunged into this scintillating yet exciting game with Chad.
“So the first one who kisses the other loses?” Chad suggested. “Is this how you want us to go about this game?”
It was becoming harder to breathe. But Theresa was in no way complaining about the feelings she had right. It was a natural high that she couldn't explain.
“It’s a fun game right?” She said in a sexy voice she never knew she had. “But what shall the winner get?”
“A bit on the lip I guess. Would you like it?” Chad said. He knew that he was close to losing this game.
“Fair enough I guess.” She said, controlling herself.
Chad couldn’t take it anymore. He pressed his lips to that of Theresa, hard, with a sense of longing and urgency that Theresa welcomed without inhibitions.
Their kiss was long. When Chad let go of her lips, she said. “So I guess I won?”
“I’ll let you win anytime honey,” Chad said, licking her lips with the tip of his tongue.
