Sam heard a sound and looked up. Jess was standing by the door to the living room. Looking at her he couldn't stop the strong feeling of attraction the flower through him. He looked at her with appreciation in his eyes. He just couldn't stop himself. He had spent the entire week thinking about her and couldn't wait to see her again.
Sam's thoughts had been filled with not just thoughts of his daughter and his work as it should be. No they had been filled with thoughts of Jess too. In fact thinking of Jess had taken up so much of his work time it was a wonder he had gotten any work done. In the end he had had to force himself to concentrate on what he had to do.
Even in sleep Sam had found himself thinking of Jess. It wasn't that he didn't want to think about her, but having her constantly on his mind was very distracting and a bit uncomfortable at times. Especially on the middle of a very important meeting. He had had to wait until everyone had left before he got up from the conference room table.
Sam felt like he was a big of fifteen all over again. That's what Jess was doing to him. And seeing her standing there looking at him after he had missed her all week was a test to self control. He hoped he didn't embarrass himself.
"Hey, Jess," he greeted her. "Thought I would surprise you and this little munchkin."
"Well I am surprised," she responded.
Sam looked at Jess again then at Emily. "Why do I feel like Emily is enjoying the surprise more than you are?"
"Well, Emily is a toddler. Everything excites her," Jess deadpanned. She was excited to see him but she wasn't ready to let him see how much just yet.
"Is that so? I had no idea," was Sam's response.
Sam smiled up at Jess then he looked at his daughter. Though she wasn't paying him any mind, "Is that true Em?" he asked of his daughter. "Does everything excite you?" He jiggled Emily on his lap to get her attention. She giggled in that beautiful baby way of hers. Sam shifted her slightly so she was able to see her mother. E
Emily's reaction when she saw Jess was one every parent desired after a long day away. She clapped her hands and screamed "Mommy," at her mother. She had her arms outstretched, ready for her regular hugs. Jess reached down and snagged her daughter from Sam's lap. Hugging her tightly and filling her face with kisses. She had missed her that day."
Hey, Princess," Jess said. "Mommy missed you today."
"Missed Mommy," Emily said and kissed her mother.
"Did you have a good time with Grandma today?" Jess asked Emily.
"Grandma walked with me," Emily replied which made her mother sigh in relief. That meant Suzie had taken Emily to the park.
"Mommy, Daddy come see me." Emily pointed to Sam with a smile on her face.
"He did, Princess. He came to see his little Munchkin," Jess said while she tickled Emily's tummy. Emily laughed, "Stop Mommy. Watch TV wif me? Daddy too."
Jess, feeling happy that no talks of park slides and swings had come up, readily agreed. She took her daughter to the sofa where she immediately moved to her father's lap. Jess and Sam looked at each other and smiled. She decided the slight pang of jealousy she felt was not worth spending time on and pushed it to the back of her mind. She was too happy for her daughter, to be jealous of Sam. Besides she had had two years that Sam would never get.
