Chapter Twelve

644 Words
As Sam walked into the living room he was greeted by two women who, if he didn't already know he could have guessed, were Sarah and Suzie, Jessica's sister and mother. They all looked so much alike you could not mistake them for anyone but family. Jessica pulled him forward, "Mom, Sarah, I know it's taken a few years for this introduction, but this is Sam. Sam this is my mom, Suzie and my sister, Sarah." "It's my pleasure to meet you ladies," Sam greeted. Suzie was the first to reply, " It's lovely to meet you too my dear." "Jess was right," Sarah said. "It's taken a while but we're glad you're here." Sam smiled at that. At least they weren't cursing him and trying to chase him out of their house. Not that he would stand by and let them do that. Not without a fight. He was there to meet his daughter and nothing would stop him. Speaking of which, "So..." Sam turned to Jess. Jess, who had sneaky expression on her face. "So," she replied. "You'll have to wait a bit still. She's asleep. Maybe you'll like to spend some time talking with my mom and Sarah?" she asked sheepishly. "Oh... Uhh... Okay... I guess," Sam stuttered. The three women burst into laughter. Sam was confused which seemed to make them laugh more. "I'm just joking, Sam," Jess said when she had stopped. "But you should see your face." "Okay," Sam said uncertainly. "She's not sleeping Sam," Suzie said. "We just wanted to see your reaction if we told you that." "I'll get her," Suzie chimed as she went down the hall and into a room that Sam figures as his daughter's. She soon emerged with a little girl held in her arms. She brought her straight to Sam. "Look, Em. Someone came to see you. You wanna say hi?"  Sam looked at the little angel Sarah was about to place in his arms. It breath stopped. She was so perfect. It was like something has taken over his heart and wouldn't let go. Infact, it felt like his heart was in a firm grip. Sam stretch out his hands for the little girl, hoping she would accept him.  Jessica waited with bated breath as her little girl looked on the man whom she would soon know as her father. Sam had his hands out to Emily, but she had not yet made a move to him. Jess was so afraid to move. Not knowing what Emily would do. What Sam did though had her speechless and a but close to tears. Sam looked at Sarah and whispered softly, "Can you out her down?" By now her had dropped his hands. Sam then stopped so he was at a lower height to match hers. "Hello, Little One," he said. "Your mother tells me your name is Emily. Is that so?" Emily nodded her head shyly, still holding on to her auntie's hand. "Well, Emily, my name is Sam. I've heard so much about you that I wanted to meet you." The little girl looked up at Sam and he felt his breath catch. She was such a beautiful version of both him and Jessica. He could see both of them in her. He again held out his hand to her. "How about we sit on the couch a bit? That way we can get to know each other or play a little game. Maybe watch a movie?"S Sampretended to think a bit then asked, "What is your favorite movie? I love Shrek and The Little Mermaid. Do you like any of those?" Sam smiled a little, with his hand still out.  Emily looked at his hand then looked back up at him. She slowly let go of he aunt and stepped towards Sam. "Lil' Mermaid," she replied before she placed her hand in her father's. A move that Sam saw as one that had changed his life forever.
