Things hadn’t gone so bad during the night. In fact it had been pretty quiet. Everyone had gotten a chance to sleep. It might not have been much but they had slept. Emily had settled into a fitful sleep throughout the night, waking only once. She had been given some more medicine before she had gone back to sleep. It probably helped that she had been on her father’s chest most of the night. Sam would have had it no other way. In fact he had insisted.
“Show me where to place her,” Sam had said as they walked into the house.
