Elara’s POV The forest was quiet except for the sound of leaves crunching beneath my boots. I kicked at them absently, watching the dry, curled edges scatter ahead of me like tiny boats on a river of dirt. The sun filtered through the trees, golden and soft, but it did nothing to ease the tension clinging to the air. We weren't talking to each other.
