"I can't believe they sent a bunch of kids to capture us. Ha, they really are desperate," Lidia mocked the group.
The skin on her face began to deform as her nails took on a strange blue color. In just a few seconds, her face was nothing more than a skull from which an unusual and striking blue hair sprouted, which she wore as if it were real hair.
"Kids? I hope you regret those words," Slavik replied in an arrogant tone.
He lunged at the woman with agility, and in response, she pulled a shotgun from her belt. The weapon had already been modified—parts of ice covered the barrel.
"Bam!"
"Bam!"
"Bam!"
Three shots were fired in the direction of Neo 6, who, standing just a few meters in front of Lidia, spun his electric staff to defend himself, barely managing to deflect each bullet.
Without giving her time for another round, Slavik closed the distance and swung his weapon at Lidia. She tried to block the blow with her arms, jumping backward and sliding across the frozen ground.
"s**t, hey, are you just going to watch or are you going to help me!" Slavik shouted as he shifted his position, placing himself between Lidia and the rest of the team.
"You don't have to tell me," Jasper replied quickly, raising his hand from the right flank.
"Planning to break the ice with your bare hands? Good luck with that," the sheriff said mockingly.
"Clack!"
Her surprise was more than evident when she saw that Jasper had shattered the ice, and that strange claws had now formed on his hands.
"Thanks a lot for the luck, it came in handy."
Before leaving Gallows Creek, Jasper decided to touch Lin for a long period of time. He noticed that the longer he channeled his cells with Lin’s, the longer he could use his copy.
He also noticed that if he repeated a copy several times, his body could understand the cells more quickly. Although he didn’t fully test it, there was a possibility of making his copies permanent.
"Was the ice lady on the light screen?" Neo 8 asked, ready to attack, positioned behind Jasper.
Slavik looked at her cautiously before responding:
"No, everything seems to indicate that this XCP and the fire XCP are working together. No research team was able to file a report, so…"
"The fire XCP was the one leaving the bodies behind," Jasper finished, stepping beside Slavik.
"Wow, so you’re XCP too? I can’t believe you’re working for an association that treats us like animals… very well."
The woman aimed her shotgun again, while in her other hand she held a whip made of ice, which extended until it grazed the ground.
"It's time for the sheriff to deliver justice."
Bam!
Bam!
The ice bullets flew back toward the group. This time, Jasper was the one who deflected them, but the moment he touched them, they shattered in midair.
A massive form of ice instantly appeared in front of them. It was an activation round.
"Neo 8, defend like I taught you!" Slavik shouted as he charged forward.
"Yes, create shield bubble!" the girl shouted, pressing both hands against the ground.
A large green layer rose over the entire area. It was like being inside a giant bubble that isolated the battle.
Lidia noticed they were trying to trap her and rushed straight toward Neo 8, crossing the frozen terrain, but Slavik intercepted her, stepping into her path.
"Where are you going in such a hurry?" he said before striking her with his staff.
The sheriff, having already seen the attack before, simply stepped back and countered with her whip.
Several lashings began to strike Neo 6’s skin. With each hit, ice particles could be seen embedding themselves into his body.
"Does the big, strong, proud leader need help?" Jasper mocked, entering from the side and slashing at Lidia with his claws.
The woman raised her weapon and aimed at Jasper, managing to land a shot on his shoulder.
Bam!
Jasper endured the pain and attacked again, but his body felt strange, as if it were freezing from the inside.
"You weren’t much help, honestly… fine, it’s time," Slavik said with an irritated expression as he began to step back, leaving the center of the fight.
"I hope this works this time."
Understanding the strategy a bit better, Jasper attacked Lidia again.
She responded by creating another wall of ice, completely blocking Jasper’s vision and separating him from the rest.
"Three against one, this is depressing," Lidia mocked, using her whip to attack from Jasper’s blind spots.
Jasper tried to cut the whip with his claws, but it was simply held in the air by the weapon’s force.
Without wasting time, the sheriff violently swung him toward the inner wall of the bubble.
"Pum!"
Jasper’s entire body was overtaken by intense pain as his mind reeled from the impact.
"Hey, why don’t you pick on someone your own size?"
Those were the words of a man with a deep voice, clearly irritated.
Before Lidia could turn around and see who the voice belonged to, she was struck directly in the face by a punch.
"You’re pretty good as a distraction. I didn’t think you’d be useful at all," said F16, who was standing there.
Or rather, Slavik transformed into F16 was standing there.
Jasper and Slavik had planned a strategy during the trip. Slavik needed a period of time to transform into someone.
During that time, Jasper would be in charge of holding the enemy back. The plan could have been disrupted if the enemy noticed and attacked Slavik directly.
But this time, that wasn’t the case, since Lidia limited both her own vision and Jasper’s by using that ice wall.
"If you’re going to transform into him, at least copy his style, you show-off," Jasper said, struggling to stand.
"Alright, now we’re really going to play, queen of ice," Slavik said, revealing metallic gloves on both hands.
"And here I was thinking this was too easy."
Lidia did not lose her pride and aimed her shotgun at the duo.
The shots were fired nonstop, but Slavik, transformed into F16, advanced without fear of being hurt.
Jasper followed closely behind him. He still didn’t fully understand Slavik’s ability, but according to what he had been told, it did more than just let him transform into someone else.
"s**t, you got a little attractive and now you think you can come at me," Lidia replied as more blue fire began to sprout from her skull.
An imminent cold began to engulf the bubble, making the team feel slower.
"Now I’m really going all out."
With those words, Lidia fired a shot with full power.
"s**t, watch out!" Slavik said, covering himself.
But to both of their surprise, the shot curved and changed direction, heading backward.
"Wait, nooo, Neo 8!" Jasper shouted desperately, looking back.
Bam!
The shot struck Neo 8 directly in the forehead.
The bubble was beginning to disappear.
