"But isn't it a matter of public record?" I asked. "That should be easy to look up."
"You'd think so," Mike said tiredly, rubbing his eyes.
I hadn't noticed the bags under his eyes before, or that his beard looked grayer than usual. I guess there were a lot of things I hadn't noticed about my neighbors. They were having a rough time of it.
"The problem is," Mike continued, "the estate lawyer can't determine who owns the plane. The owner of record is 'Air Bermuda, LLC', but the majority shareholder of 'Air Bermuda' is another LLC called, 'Fly Bermuda', which is incorporated in the Cayman Islands."
"And who owns 'Fly Bermuda'?" I asked.
