CHAPTER 39
When I told Mike about my experience with Leonard Small, he didn't hold back.
"What an ass!" he said. "It's bad enough he was rude to you, but why would he lie? It's not like we'd go after him personally."
"I can't understand it, either," I said, pushing my empty cup aside. "It was a business trip or it wasn't, and the truth will come out eventually. Did Sara and Jack happen to mention why they were going to Bermuda?"
He shrugged. "I never asked, tell you the truth, but I'm sure Sandy knows. Now that I think about it, Sara did say something odd when she dropped Katie off. She said: Thank you for keeping Katie safe."
I shuddered. "Chilling words, in retrospect, but she couldn't have known the plane would go down. Why she would say that?"
He picked up the key Sandy had left
