Wake up

781 Words
I woke up jolting upright in my bed gripping the necklace that was placed around my neck. I rubbed my thumb along the engravings in the lily charm that hung from it and sighed in relieve. It was just a dream. The same dream I've been having since I turned 16, I wake up gasping for air and gripping my necklace my mother gave me every time. Nothing in the dream ever changes it's always constant and it's always the same dark eyes staring into my soul as I gasp for air. It always haunts me and I never understand why. I crawled out of bed and walked to the washroom where I washed my face. I stared at my self for a while and examined my neck; unmarked. It was just a dream Emzy. The same dream as always. I sighed as I looked at the clock, it was 7:30. I have 10 minutes to catch the bus. I decided to leave my long curly red hair down, it takes to long to straighten and is too curly throw up in a bun unless I want to live with knots forever. I quickly applied a small amount of mascara to my dark green eyes, I threw on my yellow summer dress, it was just a plain simple dress but it provided all the comfort in the world. Lastly, my white sandals that wrapped around my ankles, shorter then gladiator sandals but similar in style. I grab my school bad, which over the years has turned into a simple book back with one binder, and threw it over my shoulder. I grabbed my keys from the front desk beside the door and lock the doors on my way out. I ran down the street and around the corner, I could hear the traffic buzzing around me and the sound of a heavy, yellow school bus down the road. I arrived at the bus stop just in time as the bus pulled up to the corner of the street, I quickly hopped on, I was completely out of breath. My once normally curly hair now in a frizz of knots around my petite freckled face. I saw my best friend Natasha sitting at the back of the bus like always and I made my way towards her and flopped down in the grey, leather seat throwing my head back. "Hey, Em, what's up?" She said as she took out her earbuds and turned to face me. "Just had the worst nights sleep ever, can't you tell? I look like a grumpy old ginger troll." I said with sarcasm in my voice. "Oh shush it, you. You look fine, besides the wacky hair." She laughed "And was it that damn dream again? You should really talk to someone you know...." She said sympathetically. as she trailed off, sticking one earbud back into her ear. "Oh god please don't start. I think it's just my crazy imagination from all the story's my grandma told me as a kid about those creatures. You know, there are so many mythical creatures to tell stories about, but she always just told me the same one." "Well, don't stress about it OK." She put her last headphone back in and soon we pulled up to the old brick school surrounded by trees. River lake high school. We hopped off the bus and walked over to the picnic table where our friends Jackson, Colton, and Eliza were waiting for us. "Hey" they all called out in unison as they made room for us at the table. I tossed my bag on the table and sighed. "Tomorrow's the big day guys. The end of the year trip to Crystal Lake Island." Colton said. "Oh right, isn't that where you grew up Emzy?" Natasha asked. "Yeah, I lived with my grandma there as a kid with my family," I replied. Tomorrow was the day we were headed to the island for two weeks. The last two weeks of school before exam week. It's for our Ancient Greek mythology class, the island is one of the most common islands where most myths have been seen and heard about, and my teacher has been completely obsessed with it. To say the least, it was an expensive trip but our school has a lot of money and since it is for school they highly encouraged all of us to go. This is going to be an eventful two weeks. The school bell rang and we all headed inside to our first-period classes - Math, for me. All I could think about was tomorrow and the two weeks ahead and what they had in store.
