AURELIA
“We have to talk,” Mireya closed my car door as soon as I pulled it open. “Ride with me.”
“How do you expect me to get back home?”
She smiled. “We are sisters. We can come back home together.”
I tilted my head, staring at her for a second. She had better not abandon me on the way, else..
“What are you looking at? Let’s go, we are going to be late,” she pulled me along with her as we got into her car.
The driver turned the ignition, driving out of the compound instantly.
“Did you and Theron settle?” she suddenly asked.
I scrolled lazily on my tablet. “Didn’t you talk with him last night? You should have asked him.”
“I only spoke with him to ask about the preparations for the gala.”
I glanced at her, “Okay.”
“You don’t seem bothered.”
“Why should I feel bothered? You are just looking out for me, aren’t you? Is that why you told him to apologize to me yesterday?
Shock flashed through her eyes. “He apologized? For what?”
She doesn’t know. My eyes narrowed slightly. Then, what exactly was he apologizing for? Did Theron find out that I knew about them? If he did, then why didn’t he tell Mireya? To protect her?
I scoffed slightly. Everything he does is in her interest.
“Aure?”
“If he didn’t tell you, then it probably is not that important,” I flashed a smile.
“You seem to think that he tells me everything,” she replied calmly.
I looked away. “Since you care about me so much, I thought he would be in contact with you, so he wouldn’t hurt your younger sister. But it seems it’s not like that.”
Mireya smiled softly. “I truly care about you, sure. But I don't think I should be interfering in your relationship.”
“Good for you,” I said boringly. The car finally came to a stop, and I got out of it immediately, walking into the company.
“However, Aure, you seem to be distant lately. Your words towards me are suddenly like arrows,” Mireya said as she fell in place beside me.
The workers bowed, whispering comparisons between themselves. Who was taller, whose shoes were better, who knew the most fashion…it never ended. It would never end. As long as Mireya and I were with each other, it would never end.
“Or maybe, you are just being suspicious, Mireya. You think I am attacking you.”
“No, I just think that you have changed. You are not the Aurelia I knew before.”
“You are not the Mireya I knew when I was younger,”
Our steps stopped, and we turned to stare at each other. Young, with a smile on her face. I was happy to have a sister, a sibling, but even at that age, she had something else in her heart.
“But then again, every single person changes with time. Maybe…maybe I have changed.” I smirked and turned, walking into the elevator.
Mireya flashed a smile outside. “I just hope we can still be sisters till the end. With no reason to fight. Cause I truly love you, Aure… and I don't want to hurt you.”
The doors closed between u,s and I finally breathed a sigh of relief. Being with Mireya no, felt like being aware of poison and still drinking it.
I had to be careful of her now. Otherwise, I might get seriously injured.
Pressing the number in the elevator, I felt it move, then suddenly—
The lights blinked.
Once. twice.
I gulped. What was going on?
The lights blinked one last time and totally went off. And before I knew it, the elevator was speedily moving downwards.
“Argh!” A scream erupted from my lips. My heart pounded against my chest as I struggled to keep myself steady.
A sharp pain rushed through my ankle as my heels twisted.
Then the elevator stopped.
I fell to the ground, unable to keep myself standing. My eyes blurred, my breath came out in short, horrid ones. My ankle felt burned, like molten lava had been poured on it.
“Help…me,” I could barely hear my own voice.
‘Cause I truly love you, Aure…I don’t want to hurt you.’
Was this what she meant?
To Mireya, was this simply a warning?
I had trusted her, and this was what she had repaid me with.
But I wouldn't back down this way. She would have to try over and over again. I had died in my past life, and it was no fun.
I raised my hand, banging the elevator. “Who is out there? Help me!”
“Someone is in here!”
“I’m in here!”
My voice turned hoarse, and just when I thought no one would come, the door pulled open.
“Aurelia,” I heard my name.
My eyes blurred, and darkness slowly covered my vision.
“Help me…” I whispered a final plea as the darkness totally engulfed me.
