Maryann’s POV
The big lake house was finally quiet. The loud laughing from dinner was gone, replaced by the low sound of snores coming from the other rooms. Every now and then, the old floorboards would creak, making me jump. I lay in my bed with my eyes wide open, staring at the dark ceiling.
I couldn't sleep. My heart was thumping against my ribs like a trapped bird. Ever since Kai had touched me in the guest room earlier that afternoon, my body felt like it was on fire. I kept pressing my legs together, trying to stop the dull ache between my thighs, but it only made me think of him more.
At exactly 1:17 a.m., the dark room lit up. My phone buzzed on the nightstand.
**Kai:** *My room. Door is unlocked. Come here now
