The house became completely silent after Michael was forced to leave.
I stayed locked inside my bedroom for hours. I buried my face in my pillow and cried until my throat hurt. My mom knocked on the door and tried to talk to me a few times, but I refused to answer. Eventually, she gave up and walked away. Downstairs, Richard was absolutely furious. I could hear the heavy thud of his footsteps as he paced back and forth across the living room floor, shouting angrily into his phone at someone.
