Chapter 4: The Alpha Who Came Back The castle felt different after that night. Or maybe… I was the one who had changed. I couldn’t stop thinking about his words. Mate Bond. War. They know you exist. My fingers curled slightly at my sides as I walked down the long corridor, guards trailing behind me like shadows. No chains this time. No ropes. But somehow… I felt more trapped than before. “You will remain under watch,” one of the guards said coldly. “The King’s orders.” I let out a quiet breath. “Of course it is.” Before I could say anything else— A loud boom echoed through the castle. The ground trembled slightly beneath my feet. The guards stiffened instantly. “What was that?” I asked. No one answered. Another boom. Closer this time. More violent. Then— Shouting. Running footsteps. Chaos. “The gates—!” a voice yelled from down the hall. “They’re forcing entry!” My heart slammed against my ribs. Forcing entry? Who would dare— A terrifying, familiar voice cut through the noise. “I don’t need permission to enter what belongs to my pack.” My blood ran cold. No. No… it couldn’t be— Silas. The guards around me tensed. “Get her out of here—now!” one of them barked. But it was too late. The doors at the end of the corridor exploded open. Wood shattered. Dust filled the air. And through it— He walked in. Silas. He looked different. Angrier. More dangerous than I remembered. His eyes locked onto me instantly. And the moment they did— Something in his expression snapped. “Seraphina.” My name left his lips like a claim. Like nothing had changed. I took a step back. “No.” “You’re coming with me,” he said, his voice dark and commanding. Like I still belonged to him. “I don’t belong to you anymore,” I shot back, my voice shaking but firm. “You rejected me. Remember?” A flicker of something crossed his face. Regret? No. Possession. “I made a mistake,” he said flatly. “One I’m here to correct.” Before I could react— He moved. Fast. Too fast. His hand wrapped around my wrist— And the moment he touched me— Pain. A sharp, burning pain shot through my body, forcing a gasp from my lips. Silas froze. “What the—” “Take your hands off her.” The voice came from behind. Cold. Deadly. Final. Dominic. The air shifted instantly. Heavy. Violent. Explosive. Silas turned slowly, his grip still tight on my wrist. And then— The two most powerful men in the room locked eyes. “You,” Silas growled. “You think you can take what belongs to me?” Dominic stepped forward, his expression unreadable. “She was never yours,” he said calmly. Silas laughed. Dark. Mocking. “I rejected her,” he snapped. “That doesn’t erase the bond.” Dominic’s gaze flickered briefly to me. Then back to him. Cold. Sharp. “It does when she forms a stronger one.” Silas went still. “What did you just say?” he asked slowly. My heart stopped. Dominic stepped closer. Danger radiating off him. “You heard me,” he said. Silas’s grip tightened painfully on my wrist. “That’s impossible,” he said. “She’s weak. She couldn’t even hold our bond properly—” “Enough.” The word hit like a slap. Dominic moved. So fast I barely saw it. One second, Silas was standing. The next— He was slammed against the wall. Hard enough to crack it. Gasps filled the corridor. “You will not speak about her like that again,” Dominic said, his voice low with rage. Silas coughed, then laughed despite the pain. “You’re protective,” he sneered. “Interesting.” Dominic’s eyes darkened. “She reacts to you,” Silas continued, his gaze shifting to me. “But not like this…” His smirk widened. “What did you do to her?” My heart raced. Dominic didn’t answer. But his silence said everything. Silas’s expression changed. Slowly. Shock. Then— Realization. “No…” he muttered. His eyes snapped to me. Wide. Unbelieving. “You bonded with him?” he demanded. I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. Silas’s face twisted with fury. “You think this is over?” he growled. “You think you can just take her and walk away?” Dominic stepped in front of me. Blocking me completely. “This isn’t a negotiation,” he said. Silas wiped blood from his lip, his smile returning—colder this time. “Good,” he said. “Because I didn’t come to negotiate.” The temperature in the room dropped. “I came,” Silas continued, his voice dark with promise, “to take back what’s mine.” My heart pounded. And this time— Dominic didn’t smile. “Try it,” he said. Silas’s eyes glowed. And the next second— Everything exploded.
