When the vehicles pulled up finally I was nervous as to what my new future would look like. Would he be like the monster I had grown to know his father and brother were, or would he be different? Would I finally have the chance to find my happiness in this life? I wasn't counting on it, but a girl can dream.
First to depart from the vehicles was Alpha Anthony. He was a tall man that had put on some weight in his later years as he no longer spent as much time training and more time sitting. He was still fit and imposing, but as his first son Andrew exited the vehicle you could see just what had changed in the Alpha. Andrew looked almost identical to his father, but more muscular. He looks like he could pick up any of these wolves here and snap them in half. His eyes showed an arrogance I could not stand. Andrew and Marcus were turning 18 in 3 days, we had all been born at the same time roughly, and I presume this had always been the plan. I could feel the Alpha's and his sons eyes on me, looking at me like a piece of meat and deciding if I was worth the cost. I could see the smile on Andrews face grow, I assume he and his father were sharing their thoughts through mind link.
"Alpha Anthony, welcome to the Fair Moon Pack." My father greeted them warmly, stepping from behind me and pushing me forward to meet them. I was attempting to look beyond them to see where this eventual mate of mine would be.
"Alpha Nicholas, the pleasure is all ours. We look forward to the future strength and joining success of our packs. This is my heir, Andrew. He has come to see what this new ally will be like, but he will be returning this evening to Silver Moon to prepare for his ceremony. I will be leaving tomorrow so I am back in time to hand over my title. What to do with all my free time once I am no longer Alpha." He laughed at himself, thinking the idea of handing over the lives of 300 wolves to an 18 year old egomaniac was an amazing accomplishment. Then again my father was the same.
"This must be your daughter, Scarlett" Anthony continued. "Beautiful eyes, I see she will be blessed by the Fair Moon Elders as a legitimate heir. Very good. This is my second son, only 1 minute younger than his brother, Marcus."
As he said that I turned my eyes to the black suv to see my first glimpse of Marcus. He was as tall as his brother, around 6'3. Slightly less bulky but moved more gracefully. Each step it seemed like he was moving to show his strength and agility while assessing what was around him. His hair was lighter than his brothers, closer to a blonde and when his eyes met mine they were a deep blue. Behind his eyes I could see how much he didn't want this, like me, but he also understood his duty.
As he approached he nodded to my father, "Alpha Nicholas. Thank you for your hospitality and trust in my families strength to usher your pack in to this new era. I only hope to be as strong and as respected as you."
His words made my father puff his chest up with pride. I'll give him credit, he knew how to appeal to the mans ego. Marcus smirked a little, knowing his words had his intended effect. I almost did the same, but was able to remain composed. From there he looked to me, settling his eyes squarely on mine as he smiled warmly.
"My Luna, you are more beautiful than any words could have done justice. You hold yourself with the confidence of a queen, but in your eyes I see the strength of a warrior. I look forward to our future and the family we will build to continue the legacy of the Fair Moon Pack."
As he finished I had to force myself not to roll my eyes. His flowery words may have worked on my father, but not me. I will not be so easily swayed. This is a contract, a business transaction. He will be Alpha and I will be expected to be nothing more than his mate and give him an heir. I realized I had said nothing and everyone was starring at me.
"My Alpha... I look forward to serving you as Luna and giving you everything you require for a long and prosperous reign as Alpha of the Fair Moon Pack. It will be my pleasure to teach you our ways and provide you with the future you are expecting." I finish my useless statement with a smile as I advert my eyes to make myself seem submissive. At least now I can roll them and no one will see.
As everyone went to walk in all the men were first with me at the end. I looked up to the sky wondering what I did to deserve all of this. I then look to my left to see my childhood friend and training partner Patrick looking at me. He makes a face which makes me laugh. I roll my eyes and make a face like I want to vomit, making us both smile. As I looked back towards the door I see Marcus waiting for me, he saw the exchange but instead of being angry like either of our fathers would have been he just smiles and mouths "agreed".
He may not be my fated mate, but at least he has a sense of humour.
