Chapter 19

839 Words
The wine cruise was everything Kesia could have wanted. They were on a ferry, going slowly down the river in a beautiful surrounding. She took a deep breath and leaned back in one of the sun-chairs. ”Aren’t you forgetting something?” Luke asked. Kesia winced a little at his voice and opened her eyes. He was standing next to the chair, looking down at her. She sighed. ”I don’t know what is so wrong with enjoying myself a little” she answered. ”Nothing is wrong with it. You can enjoy yourself, but it is not the reason we’re here.” ”I know” she said and got up from the sun-chair. ”Let’s do what we came for.” They walked below deck and up to the bar. There were several wines put up with descriptions and recommendations. Kesia read about the wines and grabbed a sample glass or two. ”I think I’ve located the key to the quote,” said Fabian who suddenly appeared from behind her, ”we just have to exchange it for the foot print. Who has it?” ”I do” said Luke. ”Where do we go?” ”Over here, she was right at the front of the boat a few minutes ago.” Luke followed Fabian as he started moving forward in the boat. Kesia stayed at the bar, sipping wine. ”Kesia!” said Luke. ”Yes?” ”Come along. We need to stick together, remember?” ”Isn’t it enough that we are on the same boat?” Luke just looked at her and Kesia rolled her eyes and put the glass down. She followed him to the bow. The sun was still high but had started descending towards the horizon. Kesia marveled at the beautiful nature once again. She realized that all of their destinations had been to large cities around the world and not really to the countryside. Sure, they had seen some nature in Italy, and in California as well, but this was different. ”Where is she?” Asked Luke as they didn’t find anyone at the bow. ”Is this where you saw her?” ”Yes, yes, she will be here in a minute. Don’t worry.” ”How do you know this is the person we are looking for?” ”Because I’ve seen her before” answered Fabian and looked at Luke in a certain way. Luke froze and looked back at Fabian, who seemed pleased somehow. ”No, it can’t be” he said, ”please tell me it’s not!” ”Who?” asked Kesia, ”Can someone fill me in please?” ”They’re talking about me” said a female voice behind her. Kesia turned around. In front of her stood a woman who had a real ”femme-fatale”-vibe going on. She was dressed in black with dark hair flowing over her shoulders. She was wearing high heels and a neckline that revealed a little but not enough to make her seem desperate or cheap. The woman looked at Luke. ”Hello, lover” she said, teasingly. ”Victoria” said Luke with a little nod. ”I thought you were dead.” ”Yes, well, sometimes it’s easier that way. I’ve never been a fan of goodbyes. Who is this?” She looked at Kesia. ”I’m Kesia” ”Ah, a new partner, huh?” she looked at Luke again. ”I’m sure your relationship is strictly professional” she said with obvious sarcasm in her voice. ”Can we just stick to business, please?” said Luke. ”I believe you have something for us?” ”I do indeed, just as soon as you give me a foot print.” Luke took out the black little cube and waited for Victoria to show what she had before he gave it to her. She reached into her pocket and revealed a black envelope. They quickly exchanged their possessions. Luke opened the envelope and unfolded a little piece of paper. ”I go up and down, yet I stand perfectly still?” ”It’s a riddle” said Kesia. ”Staircase”. ”Oh, yes, of course” said Luke. Victoria raised her eyebrows. ”She is smarter than she looks!” ”And a way better partner than you ever were” Luke added. Victoria laughed a little. ”Ok, I think that’s my cue” she said and nodded slightly as a good bye before she disappeared below deck. ”Someone really needs to fill me in” said Kesia. ”That was Victoria, Cornelias niece. We used to be partners a few years ago.” ”And you had a little fling?” ”Ew, no! Gross… We basically grew up together, as siblings.” ”But she called you lover?” ”Just to mess with me. And with you.” ”Oh. Well, she seems lovely.” More coming soon...
