7: Utterly Confused

Kiara’s POV: My throat felt like it was being crushed from the inside. His voice reverberated deep in my bones, carrying a weight that was almost physical in nature. My vocal cords refused to obey my brain, my voice trapped in my chest. Who is this man standing before me? Where is the beast? Oh goodness, could it be that he’s lurking in the shadows? Did anything happen? I glanced at the doors, and they were still locked. There was no sign of a break out or entry. I checked my body, between my legs. There was nothing out of the ordinary. A quick mental scan revealed that there wasn’t any pain in my body that could have come from something massive ripping me apart from inside. I wasn’t raped…what the heck happened then? There was no one in this room but this strange man and i. Oh s**t. “I asked you a damn question.” An angry snarl broke my train of delirious thoughts. The man stalked up to me, each step like a countdown to certain doom. Before I could think, a scream ripped out of my throat and I scrambled as far from him as I could get. My back hit a wall and I pressed into it, trying to get as small as possible, mold into the wall if I could. The man crouched in front of me, and up close I could see the amber flecks in his eyes. What a strange color of eyes. It quickly hit me that this was not the right time to be admiring his eyes. He backed me into a corner, and the expression on his face is nothing short of anger. It took a second to register, but his eyes were oddly similar to that of the beast. Cold and dead. My heart sank as I realized that it was him. He struck out and grabbed me by my throat. I tried to get him off me ny clawing at his wrists, and it was as useful as stopping a truck with a pebble. He lifted me off the ground and slammed me into the wall. His hair flared out like a lion’s mane, and his eyes were starting to turn red. “Speak, or ill snap your neck.” My heart punched my ribcage so hard I was sure id see bruises if I peaked. I could f*****g smell my own fear, I could see it clogging my airways and head. My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water and tears stung the back of my eyes. Any more of this and I was sure I’d pass out. “H-help,” I choked out, “here to H-help,” He frowned, bushy brows drawn tight together. His grip went slack and I inhaled an obnoxious amount of oxygen. “Help? Help who?” “Y-you,” I tried to string a full sentence together but I couldn’t get it out. “Your b-brother he…” He leaned forward, his nose buried into the crook of my neck. My body stiffened as he sniffed my neck. He growled, the sound low and rumbling then he raised his head up and looked at me. “Did I mark you?” My head bobbed fast. His hand around my neck vanished and grabbed my chin, forcing my head to the side. Growls rumbled in his chest and I jerked back in fright. His fingertips dug painfully into my chin, and I winced in pain. “Why would I mark you? Answer me!” “I don’t know!” I cried out. Why is he asking me?! “Liar,” his voice was an accusatory hiss. “I-I don’t…know,” I said and met his eyes. “You left me no choice.” His eyes narrowed. “You feel my mark, don’t you?” My face scrunched up in confusion and I gave a small nod. “Yes,” “This means we are now bonded, like real mates.” If it was possible for my heart to sink any lower than my stomach, it did. Mates? What the actual hell? That was not my plan at all! Can’t I even have some good luck in this lifetime? “That’s…” “I don’t even know who the hell you are. How is this possible?!” “I don’t know,” I said in a defeated tone. Why isn’t he listening to me?! And why is he so angry for what he did?! “You did something, didn’t you? You’re a witch. You enchanted me. This is your fault, woman!” A scoff left my lips before I could stop it. “If I were a witch, I wouldn’t be here being accused of what I didn’t do.” He let go of me and walked away. My knees buckled and I fell, my hand going to my chin to soothe the ache from his grip. The sight of his naked back made me realize that he was stark naked. My face bloomed with heat and I averted my gaze to a random wall. I curled in on myself and tried to cover up as much as I could. Urgh, this is so embarrassing. Did he just interrogate me while we were both buck naked? I don’t think he noticed. Or if he did then it didn’t bother him. The sounds of his pacing reached my ears. Against my better judgment, I glanced over at him. I kept my eyes respectfully on his face. His shoulders rolled with tension and I could see his jaw clenched hard. His profile struck a memory inside my head. That’s him! He’s the alpha king that died. I remember clearly now. In my past life, he had died. Does this mean that how he’s a human his curse has been broken? But that doesn’t make sense. His brother said the way to break the curse was through copulation… and that clearly didn’t happen. I touched my neck where he had marked me. I was now bonded to the alpha king of all people. The alpha king. This wasn’t supposed to happen. I was just to break his curse, survive, and move on with my new life away from Gregg and everything I knew. That was it! My chest began to tighten and I felt my breaths quicken. Before I could transition into full blown panic, I heard the King’s voice. “You,” I met his eyes. “Y-yes,” “How did you get in her?” I turned to the door. “That way,” “Well it won’t f*****g open,” he snapped. Then he paused and inhaled sharply. I swallowed the giant lump in my throat. “Who is coming to open the door?” he asked in a much calmer tone as if that made him any less terrifying. He must have tried to leave. “I was thrown in here, the door is…is locked from outside.” “And?” I quickly ran my tongue over my lips. “They’ll probably come back to check if I’m alive….by tomorrow.” I added the last part in a whisper. His body went rigid, his muscles rolled and pulled taut like cords. “What do you mean by that?” “Nothing.” I said, even as fear slithered down my back at the stories the maids had told me. “Bullshit. Explain your statement, or I will snap your neck.” There was no doubt in me that he would see his threat through. My throat burned and I touched my neck where I was sure his hand print was showing. I lowered my eyes to the ground, partly embarrassed and partly terrified. “Ever since you became a…a beast, every woman you…you sleep with ends up dead. So that’s why they’ll come back later, in case I survived the um…the copulation.” Which didn’t happen, thank the divine. Silence filled the air. It was so sudden and so heavy that I looked up to make sure he was still in the room. He stared at me, his cold eyes not so cold. Shock reflected in them, and his brows were raised. He looked….horrified? he didn’t…that cant be. “You don’t remember anything from when you were trapped in your beast?” I asked. He grabbed his mouth with his hand, his chest rising and falling faster. Oh. The weight of his silence admittance settled in my chest. He didn’t know. Before I could say anything else, he turned away and threw up.
