Ruby hardened her expression and shook her head at the man.
“Stop talking nonsense, Mr. Beaufort. You know this is wrong. I don’t want to destroy a family, so stop this,” Ruby firmly told Jack, trying to pull away from him.
Jack, however, seemed indifferent to her words and continued to stare at her intently. Where there had once been mere mischief in his eyes, there was now a hint of resentment.
“You’re the one who insisted on having this agreement and signed it willingly. You called me every night when you wanted it, Teacher Red. Do you think it’s unfair that I haven’t said anything until now?” His voice was deep and hoarse.
Ruby suddenly felt a pang of fear and guilt.
For the first time, Ruby realized that even a tough and muscular man like Jack could make people weak in their legs with his voice, but not her, at least not at this moment. Her concern for her future and career outweighed her body's temporary needs.
So, before she could completely give in to Jack’s seduction, she pushed him away and hardened her expression.
“I’m sorry, but I didn’t dream of being someone’s mistress,” she said directly, shocking him.
Jack’s jaw clenched, and his eyes turned sharp as he stared at Ruby. “So, do you want me to marry you then?”
Ruby frowned and felt irritation rising. “I think you’ve misunderstood our arrangement, Mr. Beaufort. I made it clear from the start that our relationship is limited to the bedroom. Whether you want to marry me or not doesn’t matter. I never had any intention of marrying you. Not now, or ever,” Ruby declared firmly, quickly removing her dress and changing into another set of clothes for her departure.
“Goodbye, Mr. Beaufort,” she said and left without looking back.
Ruby immediately chastised her heart and quickly grabbed her cellphone that Fiona left there. She was about to block Jack’s number so he couldn’t contact her, but then she remembered Zeke. She pouted. Jack is Zeke’s father, who is her favorite student.
Instead of blocking his number, she just changed the contact name. From now on, she would keep a clear boundary with this man, with no further involvement.
But it seemed that fate was teasing her when she remembered that the next day was her home-visit day, and Zeke’s name was at the top of her list of students to visit. The kid’s family was in a special situation. She hadn’t been able to communicate well with his guardian, so she had decided that he would be the first one she would visit. At that time, Ruby didn’t know that Jack was Zeke’s father.
Ruby let out a frustrated sigh. She knew Jack was a busy man, so she was certain she wouldn’t see him at the house she was visiting now. There was a chance they wouldn’t run into each other.
By the afternoon, Ruby arrived at the Beaufort mansion, as it took her time to finish her tasks for the day. A handsome and polite butler greeted her at the door.
As soon as she saw the house, she was amazed. It was her first time stepping into such a palace-like home. The lights were on, and the villa in front of her was majestic, resembling the castle from a fairy tale book!
It was hard to imagine that a man who dressed simply every time she met him lived in a place like this.
Ruby was about to take out the shoe covers from her bag when one of the housemaids stopped her and handed her a pair of slippers. They looked brand new.
“This is prepared for you, Teacher Red,” the maid said politely, so she accepted the slippers.
“Thank you,” she replied briefly. She took off her high heels and put on the slippers that fit her perfectly.
Once inside the house, she looked around the spacious living room. There was no one under the crystal chandelier several meters high.
“Where is Zeke?” she asked the elderly maid who immediately approached her.
“Oh, he’s practicing boxing. Please follow me, Teacher Red.”
The old housekeeper led her to the elevator to the second floor. She found it strange. Could it be that their living room was in the basement? What would they do in the basement?
Before Ruby could ponder further, the elevator doors opened, and she immediately saw a boxing ring. Inside the ring, she saw two figures: a large man and a smaller one. The little guy was wearing gloves and his hair was soaked with sweat.
Jack was wearing a pair of black casual pants with his upper body bare. Under the dim light, his eyebrows were lowered, and even though Ruby couldn’t clearly see Jack’s expression, she could feel the intense and menacing aura emanating from him.
Sweat beads slid down the man’s chin, and his Adam’s apple moved. Jack was cold and intense, a stark contrast to how he had pressed himself against her in the locker room.
Ruby’s gaze was momentarily broken from Jack when a bell-like sound suddenly rang. She could see the beads of sweat on Jack’s chest, glistening and slowly dripping down into the little scars.
Her attention shifted to Zeke as he fell to the floor. His father’s demeanor was cold and strong, reminding Ruby of her military training instructor, who was equally stern and unyielding.
“Stand up and carry on. Knock me down!” Jack ordered his son firmly.
Poor Zeke was exhausted and struggled to rise. His right foot gave out, and he knelt down again, placing his hands on the ground and gasping for air. However, his father did not seem satisfied and lifted Zeke with one hand, his muscular arm bulging.
Ruby’s anger and pity for her student boiled over. She ignored Jack’s enticing physique and quickly marched into the boxing ring. She grabbed Jack’s sweaty arm and positioned herself in front of Zeke.
“Enough, Mr. Beaufort,” she said firmly, surprising Jack with her sudden intervention.
Ruby’s slender, white hands contrasted sharply with Jack’s bronzed arms. Clearly weaker compared to his strength, but she didn’t seem afraid to confront him.
“Get out of the way,” Jack’s eyes were icy, filled with a murderous intent that made Ruby feel uneasy.
She recalled the bruises on Zeke’s body, which she had previously attributed to the child’s clumsiness and possible falls. Now she understood the real reason. No wonder Zeke hit Ethan so hard, leaving the latter unable to retaliate.
“Mr. Beaufort, Zeke is only 6 years old and he is your son. Isn’t this training a bit excessive for his age?” she countered, her expression still resolute.
Jack’s gaze fell on her clean and fair face. “What position does Teacher Red have in this house to say that to me, huh?”
Ruby felt the threat in his voice but stood her ground, hardening her expression even further.
“I am his teacher, Mr. Beaufort, which gives me the right to take care of him because he is my student. For the sake of the child's physical and mental health, I must remind you that it is not a good idea to act too hastily or to push him too hard.”
The elderly housekeeper was taken aback by what she heard and witnessed. This was the first time she had encountered someone unafraid of her employer, and it was a woman! Realizing that a confrontation was about to erupt, she quickly intervened.
“Sir Jack, Teacher Red is right. Also, the young master is exhausted. I will take him to his room so he can change clothes and rest.”
The housekeeper quickly moved, gently picking up Zeke and leaving. As soon as they were gone, Ruby felt her knees trembling as she realized how close Jack was to her. She could smell the man’s natural scent, even though he was drenched in sweat!
There was a hint of unbearable intensity in his eyes, but Ruby remained resolute.
“He is just a child. How can he handle such high-intensity training?” she pointedly remarked.
Jack smirked as he stared at her, as if he were undressing her with his eyes. Or perhaps he was doing something to her in his imagination!
“What’s wrong? Are you angry?” Jack said, walking toward her with a strong presence that forced her to step back until her back hit the rope. Ruby found herself trapped with no way out.
Jack’s smirk widened as he noticed the shift in Ruby’s expression. He leaned in, grabbing the rope with one hand and enclosing her within his space.
Ruby’s eyes darted around. “Move, Mr. Beaufort.”
