I wake up in a room so bright it makes me wonder how I’d ever slept at all. More likely someone has knocked me unconscious, maybe drugged me. But why? Who have I wronged this week? A list of potentials flits through my head, but I banish it to the back. At the moment, I’ve got bigger snakes to shish kabob. Fluorescent light cascades from fixtures mounted to the ceiling, well out of reach, and invades my unprepared pupils. They shrink to the size of needlepoints in order to cope, but their reaction does nothing to ward away my pounding headache. More evidence of something slipped in my drink.
