Nobody grills a burger like Gus Whalen. At least that’s what the people in Huckleberry Springs will tell you. The success could be in the spices and marinades he selects, or that he refuses to switch from charcoal. It also might be his practiced hand. Do anything enough times and you’ll learn to get it right eventually. You can see Gus out on his back porch almost every night, starting in April—sometimes March if the weather sings the right tune— and carrying on until late October.
