Chapter Twenty
Ian tried to ignore the people staring at his t-shirt while they waited to de-plane and then make their way through passport control, luggage collection and finally customs. Janine tried to ignore those same people, although her discomfort resulted from the very short coat Laura had given her to wear, all her own clothes having been safely packed away in Laura’s bag. The fact that she was barefoot only added to the incongruity of her appearance.
As they waited in the various queues Laura announced to Ian, “Janine’s coming home with us. I’ve asked her to think about becoming our au pair or nanny. Living in of course. I figure we’ll need some help getting ready for the baby.”
“Oh yes. Good idea,” said Ian, smiling shyly at Janine.
