Luke walked out of the Moodie family's main residence with the help of the house maid pushing a chair for him.
He honestly had nowhere to go, except his old home in the countryside, left behind by the old man who used to take care of him.
"Is there somewhere you'd like to go, sir? Miss Regina asked me to take you where you wish to go."
In front of him, a driver he recognized immediately ran up to him, asking about his plans.
Luke was silent. He wasn't sure he had anywhere to go other than that place, but staying there wouldn't help much for his treatment, as it was so far away and remote.
“Take him to stay at green hill for a while.”
Luke turned around, he found Regina just coming out of Moodie's house. “I'm fine, I'll find my own place-”
The woman then smiled dryly, Luke's refusal seemed to sound arrogant to her ears. "It will be easier for me to know where you live, while the divorce is still being processed. After that, I won't care where you are staying."
What Regina said sounded harsh, sounding like she was only thinking about her own interests. But the shoulder that turned away, did not make Luke hate her, instead his guilt grew.
“I'm sorry Regina,” he said as the black car she was in pulled away. “One day I'll make up for everything you've sacrificed while you were with me.”
The next day, their divorce trial was scheduled. Because of the trial and all the other arrangements, Luke was forced to delay his recovery.
He missed his scheduled therapy that week. His thoughts were distracted, on Regina who he should free first from a marriage she didn't want.
“You ignorant man, you're really shameless.” Emery's eyes immediately scoffed contemptuously at the sight of Luke who had just arrived.
This time hatred, anger, and satisfaction were mixed in his eyes. Perhaps the woman was relieved that her daughter had finally chosen to let go of the humiliating burden that she bear all this time.
Emery left Regina's nonchalant-looking side there, to walk up to Luke with her head held up and her gaze staring down.
“Look at you.” her eyeballs moved to point harshly. "You're about to divorce my daughter, but you're still using her facilities. What a cheap man."
Her loud words in the corridor drew the eyes of others to Luke.
Luke felt the pairs of eyes now fixed on him, the corners of his eyes could clearly see what their expressions were like as they looked at him with a condescending gaze. Even his ears could hear what they began to whisper.
In that humiliating situation, he fell silent. His hands clenched nervously trying to maintain his dignity there.
"Come off it, ma'am. Don't make a scene in this place." Before Emery could embarrass Luke further, Regina tugged on her arm to walk with her into the courtroom.
The trial went on for two hours, with no claims from Regina as the plaintiff, and Luke making no statements other than confirming Regina's statements against him.
As soon as the trial ended, Regina left the room. She didn't mince words, leaving the courtroom after the result was read out, not even to shake Luke's hand one last time.
But Luke, he had a lot of things he wanted to tell her, for the last time, he wanted to tell Regina about something to the point that he tried to chase after her.
“Regina!” He painstakingly turned the wheel of his chair with both hands. “Regina, wait a moment, I have something to say.”
Even though he called out loudly, Regina's steps didn't seem to be waiting for him.
However, Luke did not give up, he continued to turn the wheels of his chair, which several times almost spelled out people and made him fall.
"Regina, wait! Please wait a moment." After much effort, he caught up with Regina outside the exit.
Breathing heavily, Luke reached for her wrist. Grasping it desperately.
But his efforts were met with a cold, dismissive hand. “What else do you want to talk about?”
The disgusted and tired face made Luke stung by the cold, the words he had previously prepared were now scattered and could not come out.
“Don't waste my time-”
Before Regina could continue, Luke's hand had already risen and handed her a white envelope.
"What's that? He compensated you Regina?" Just as the envelope slipped out of Luke's hand, a man got out of the luxury car parked in front of them.
The man, dressed in a suit from a famous designer, well-built with sunglasses that he took off as he walked and pinned to his suit, was now standing next to Regina with his arm around her.
Luke stared at the man, his gaze fixed on the closeness between the two, while his ears clearly heard how Emery greeted him happily.
The man then took the envelope in Luke's hand, smiling as he opened it. “One million dollars?”
The dismissive laugh that sounded as short as a sigh burned Luke worse than any insult Emery had ever given him.
The man's eyes lingered on Luke like he was assessing his every angle, then shifted towards Regina whose shoulders he embraced familiarly. “I thought your mother said she spent your money, but it seems she still has a heart and wants to compensate you for it.”
Luke was undeterred, he still tried to remain calm.
Regina snatched the envelope and placed it back in Luke's hand. “Take it back and don't ever bother me!”
Hearing Regina's words the man laughed excitedly. "Right, keep it. Looks like you need it more than anyone."
The man's hand reached out to him, then patted his shoulder lightly. "Don't worry about her, because I will be in charge of her. She didn't need someone like you from the start and now she realizes it."
“Get your hands off me.” Luke raised his gaze, staring intently at the stranger who was trying to make out with Regina right in front of his eyes.
