After talking to my dad, I went upstairs and started packing a bag for the weekend. As I was putting my pants in the bag, the door bell rang and I knew that Mia was here. I continued to pack the things I needed when I heard Marcus say, " I'm sorry." I turned and looked at him. "I don't understand why you wouldn't speak up. So much of this could have been avoided." He looked at the ground and said, "I was scared. I'm not ready to be a dad." "Hate to break it to you but your going to be a dad." "I know that." "So what do you plan to do?" I asked as I folded a navy blue shirt. "Knowing Mia and her family, they would want us to get married but I don't want that." "Then you say that. You can still be a great dad without having to marry her." "I know, but I feel like mom and dad will push the issue." "How about I come down there and sit with you? If things get too much, we can always leave." "I'd like that. By the way, why are you packing?" "I'm going to make things right with Sheryl." Marcus smiled and said, "I'm happy you found her." "Me to. Now let's go and get this over with before dad comes up here and drags your ass down the stairs." I walked towards the door and Marcus said, " We still cool?" "Ya." We walked downstairs in silence and towards the living room, where all the voices could be heard. Marcus stopped and looked at me. "You got this and I got your back." He nodded and walked in. "Ah, there he is. Thought I was going to have to drag you down here," my father said as we walked in. "He was talking to me and we lost track of time." "No big deal," my father said. Marcus and I stood to the side since there were no more chairs. The room felt tense and I felt very uncomfortable. "I guess I'll start. I want to know what Marcus and Mia plan to do about their situation?" Mia's father asked. "Mia and I have not talked about the baby," Marcus said as he looked away. "Now is a good time to talk about it son," my dad said. "I want to get married and give my baby a name," Mia said with a cheerful voice. "The baby can still have my last name if we don't get married. I can help out every day since you guys live next door and on the days I don't work on the ranch I can take the baby." "Your not getting out of this Marcus. You will marry me," Mia said. "Mia, I don't want to marry you but I will be there for my child." "Ah!" She screamed, causing everyone to look at her. "Mia, enough," Nicole said. "Now Marcus, you do not want to cause issues for our families in town. Mia is right. The child should have your name and you should be there around the clock, not when you feel like it." Suddenly, a verbal fight broke out between both sets of parents. Marcus and I looked at each other when we heard our father shout and I said, "enough. They are not even legal adults. Mia, you can give the baby his last name at birth and you can both go to court and make up an arrangement. Child support can be discussed and all that. Perhaps as the baby ages they will develop stronger feelings for one another, but until then this should not even be a topic. They are still kids and if both sides wants to fight, so be it, but Marcus has spoken his peace and stated he would be there." I grabbed Marcus by the arm and pulled him out of the room and up towards the stairs. Once upstairs, I let go of him and headed to my room. "Thank you for having my back." "No problem but keep that promise." "I will. What time are you leaving?" "Heading out after breakfast." "I'll see you in the morning." "Night." My parents didn't yell for Marcus or I but the fighting stopped and when I heard Mia and her parents leave, I felt a sense of peace. -I know a short chapter but the next one will be longer. I'm thinking about 3 to 4 chapters left of this book. The next update is tomorrow night, but it will be later in the evening. Thanks for reading and the continued support.
