The Devil's Daughter

2219 Words

Ian Roxanne is still in my attic, just a few feet away from me. Her big pale eyes look at me with so much sorrow it actually drenches my soul too. She is not talking. For the last few seconds after she delivered her omniscient words, she just stood there in silence. “Who is she?” I insist again, words coming softer out of my mouth. Roxanne doesn’t respond. She just stares and stares, eyes filling with tears that never fall. There is a small breeze around her, and it is just as impossible as she is - the doors and windows are closed even though it is hot outside. “I can’t tell you more, child,” she finally manages to say and by the way her face contorts it is like she is really really trying to speak but something is stopping her. “Just be careful with your magic and guard your heart.”
