I couldn’t deny what I saw. Even from this distance, no matter how much I wanted to believe it was a black garbage bag. I crept on the toes of my old army boots to get a closer look, the matter becoming less real and more movie-like. It moved. A leg. Twitch. I stopped mid-step. It was human.
