Chapter Ten This was, of course, a false alarm. Giulianna was not waking up, as Kadisha believed. She was, in fact, crashing. The nurses quickly swept Kadisha and Helle out of the way while more medical professionals rushed to the room. There was much shouting and commotion while they struggled to save the girl from Death’s sure grip. Though Kadisha stood taller than Helle, she wrapped both arms around Helle’s waist and sobbed into her breast like a child. What could Helle do but console the girl? She was given little choice in the matter. As she stroked the hood of Kadisha’s sweatshirt, she could not help but think if only she had signed those papers the doctor had mentioned, this chaos could have been prevented.
