Chapter 10   Jack watched from the door as Ren packed the kids’ clothes into a suitcase.  Enough for a week.  Later, they’d come back for more. When he was done with the kids’ stuff, he moved on to their bedroom.  Jack trailed after him and closed the door while Ren tugged another case from the closet. “What if it follows us?” Jack asked.  “We don’t even know what it is.” Ren sighed.  It was late.  His back ached and his eyes felt full of sand.  He couldn’t think.  All he could say was, “We can’t stay here, Jack.  I know you love this house, but it’s too dangerous.  Our daughter almost died tonight.” “We don’t know that for sure.” Ren stopped in his tracks, then shook his head.  He tossed his suitcase on the bed and started by filling it with socks and underwear.  His and Jack’s.  H
