Chapter 6
After playing outside most of the day, the kids went down earlier than usual. Jack and Ren used their grown-up time to pop some corn and find a movie to enjoy—a movie with mature language and adult situations. Something they wouldn’t have watched it the kids were awake.
Halfway through, Jack hit pause and got up for a mid-movie pee. Ren took the opportunity to make another pot of tea. While he waited for the kettle to boil, he wandered toward the door.
“I’m sorry,” Jack said, appearing behind him and making him jump.
“You nearly gave me a heart attack, man.”
Jack approached. “I shouldn’t have stuck the door together without asking you first.”
