Time slowed.
My body blurred into silver light, fur and fang ripping forward as the battlefield exploded into chaos. I lunged at Damon, the alpha who once rejected me, the male who mocked my tears.
He didn’t expect it.
He didn’t expect me.
My wolf collided with his, and we crashed into the snow, teeth sinking, claws slashing. The scent of blood burst into the air — mine, his, ours.
He snarled. “You dare attack your Alpha?”
I broke away, shifting back, breath heaving. I stood naked in the snow but unashamed. My skin was marked with fresh bruises, but my voice was sharp.
“You’re not my Alpha. You lost that right when you threw me away.”
Behind me, Lucien stood frozen — not with fear, but awe.
Because I didn’t just fight Damon.
I won.
Damon fell to one knee, chest heaving, eyes filled with disbelief.
“You… you were nothing.”
I smiled. “And now I’m something you’ll never touch again.”
---
Kira grabbed a cloak and wrapped it around me as the pack gathered. Murmurs rose through the ranks.
“She defeated him.”
“She challenged her past.”
“She’s not weak.”
Lucien stepped forward slowly, regal and deadly. “If you ever cross this border again,” he told Damon, “you won’t leave with your life.”
But I stepped between them. My voice was louder now, clearer than the first time Damon rejected me in front of his pack.
“This is your last warning,” I said. “You called me worthless. Broken. But I found my wolf — and she’s stronger than you ever were. Go back to your pack. Tell them I survived you. Tell them I became more because of it.”
Damon staggered to his feet, glaring. But he turned, humiliated, broken in pride and power, and disappeared into the forest.
---
Back in the castle, silence reigned.
Until Lucien stepped close, grasped my face between both hands, and kissed me like he’d waited centuries.
It wasn’t sweet.
It wasn’t slow.
It was wildfire.
His mouth claimed mine, rough and hot, and the spark that had been simmering finally exploded into flame. I melted into him, gripping his tunic, breathing him in.
“You chose,” he whispered against my lips. “Didn’t you?”
I nodded.
“I want you,” I said. “Not because you saved me. But because you saw me when I was still in pieces.”
His growl vibrated in my chest.
“You’re mine,” he said, kissing my throat. “But more than that — you are your own.”
---
Later that night, as the healers tended to wounds and the fires died down, Kira entered my chamber with quiet steps.
“There’s something you should see,” she said.
She handed me a letter.
The seal was broken. The paper, torn. But the words… they turned my blood cold.
> “She lives. She shifted.
The girl is no longer a pawn — she’s a threat.
We cannot allow her to rise.
Prepare the hunters.”
It was unsigned.
But the symbol at the bottom — the black crown — was not Damon’s.
It belonged to the Shadow Court.
A secret alliance of rogue alphas, witches, and mercenaries. They hadn’t moved in years.
Until now.
I looked up. “They’re coming for me.”
Kira nodded. “You’re no longer fighting for survival. Now… you’re fighting for the throne.”
