Lunch outside was mostly quiet; River’s absence was felt more at these family meals. No one really knew how to change the mood, so there was only the occasional conversation about general pack business. River was not there to challenge their father or them to a sword fight, like in the last book she’d read. Or to make fun of Aaron’s latest fling baring all at school, literally. Apparently, the she-wolves were not as low-key about their experiences and a much exaggerated tale would make its way around the high school, usually where River could hear.
