Forced Back Home

The next few days had been peaceful for Riley at least as she recovered from the pneumonia and began to feel more healthy and strong from the amounts of food and drink she'd been given instead of surviving on miniscule leftovers. It was heaven she'd thought, casting aside all her doubts and trying to just take each day as it came. Dr Susan had been working hard on getting Riley to another pack, a plan in the works when everything came crashing down and she was forced to stand and watch helplessly as her plans went down the drain.

The first thing Riley heard was Dr Susan speaking to someone sharply nearby, her voice rising with every word she spoke until she was almost yelling so loudly that patients began to stick their heads out in concern.

"She needs rest and to gather her strength up again. She almost died because of the neglect she received at your pack."

It didn't take a genius for Riley to realise that Dr Susan was referring to her pack, Riley being the one who'd almost died. The question was, who had come to retrieve her?

"She is our servant and needs to be back at the pack house performing her duties" the nasally annoying voice of Luna Renae cut in and Riley's heart sank. So they had come to get her just as she had originally thought. She looked around the room she'd spent the last few days in sadly. Without knowing it her eyes flashed black with purple rings for a moment, just as quickly gone as her anger dissolved and she became resigned to what was coming.

"She is not a servant" Dr Susan was still arguing, still attempting to block anyone making it to Riley's room.

"She is our servant" Alpha Gordon suddenly snarled "and who are you to go against an Alpha and Luna, you stupid woman."

"A doctor who cares about her patients" Dr Susan yelled back, apparently not intimidated and shocking both of them who were used to everyone bowing down and obeying their orders.

"Move aside" Alpha Gordon thundered using his Alpha voice and Dr Susan was helpless to do anything but obey, her eyes glaring coldly at both of them as they strode up to Riley's room, sniffing out her scent and opening the door with a loud crash that almost had Riley fall off the bed.

"Riley" Alpha Gordon snapped completely irritable from his conversation in the hallway "it's time you come back and do your damn chores. The house is a pigsty and I'm expecting company tomorrow."

She swung her legs over the side and slowly got up, Luna Renae going back out the room and sitting down to wait, everyone rushing past her in an attempt to avoid the woman.

"Just let me get changed" Riley said in a cracked voice "I need my cannula pulled out as well" she added as his lip curled and he opened his mouth to say something. Dr Susan came storming in "Riley I'll undo the cannula so that you can get dressed properly."

She whirled around and pointed a shaking finger at Alpha Gordon who had remained standing where he was "You" she said coldly "will get out and give her privacy to change clothes."

He glared but went out the door, Dr Susan closing it and locking it, tenderly removing the iv with tears in her eyes.

"I'm so sorry Riley" she whispered thickly "I tried to keep them out, I really did."

"It's ok" Riley said numbly "I kind of figured they would. It's not your fault."

Dr Susan shook her head at the complete despair in Riley's tone of voice. "Don't give up Riley" she pleaded "I'm still working on a way to get you out and to another pack. I just need a few more days" she said sniffling but Riley shook her head.

"Don't" she whispered "getting me out is not worth your life. They won't hesitate to kill you and I won't have your death on my conscience."

She dressed mechanically, Dr Susan helping her out of the gown and watching miserably as Riley donned her clothes. She brushed her hair and Dr Susan put it in a ponytail, gasping as she saw Riley was barefoot.

"I should have found you some shoes" she exclaimed "give me a minute and I'll" she trailed off at the look in Riley's eyes.

"They'll just take them away" Riley said quietly "as it is I figure I'm probably walking back. I'm used to having bare feet so please don't worry. My feet will be fine.”

Dr Susan had a look of utter fury on her face as she stormed back out and faced off with the terrible Luna and Alpha wishing she could personally strangle them both on Riley's behalf. They met her eyes as she forced herself to take a deep breath "Riley will need to be given a lift back to the pack house. She is still recovering and doing too much will put it backwards and she could very well be back here again as a result."

Riley quietly came out of the room, head hung low as she stared at the floor. "It's nice to see you again Luna Renae and Alpha Gordon" she greeted them softly as the others all stared at each other, neither wanting to concede.

"Riley" Dr Susan said incredibly sweetly "I was about to escort you outside. Alpha Gordon and Luna Renae will bring the car around so that you don't have to walk" she added shooting a glare as they stared and then heaved big sighs going to do as she said, guessing that they would have to snatch Riley up otherwise which was too much effort. To be honest neither had cared too much about Riley but with Marcus's annoying nagging they'd gone to get her just to shut the boy up. Why did he care anyway what happened to her? God the girl was annoying and there was something strange about her that just felt well off to them. Like she was human but wasn’t at the same time.

Dr Susan gave Riley a big hug as they sauntered outside "Call me if you need anything, anything at all" she whispered, sneaking a card into Riley's hand which she quickly hid in the pocket of her pants. A large BMW pulled up to the entrance with an impatient Alpha Gordon and Luna Renae sitting there, Riley quickly getting into the car, waving a forlorn goodbye to an incredibly upset Dr Susan. Thanks for everything she silently mouthed before looking forward, the pack house coming into view once again. To everyone else it looked grand, massive, like a mansion but to Riley it now resembled nothing more than a prison cell, one she would never be able to escape.
